Bridesmaid Hair and Makeup Cost

Bridesmaid Hair and Makeup Cost

I am curious to hear what everyone thinks about how much a bridesmaid should pay for her hair and makeup. I was recently in a wedding and I paid $130 all together for hair and makeup.

For my wedding hair is going to cost $85 a person and makeup will be $75 a person for a total of $160. I really would like all of the girls to get both their hair and makeup professionally done but since I can't pay for it for them I am thinking I should give them the option to do their own makeup, I would really like them to at least have their hair professionally done. Does this sound reasonable?

To be honest, unless you're paying for them, I don't think you can really ask them to do it. If they decide to do it, that's great. But between the dress, the shower, the bachelorette party, and wedding gifts, I don't think it's fair to put the burden of hair and make up on them. I have a few girls who I really want to make sure get their hair done, so I'm paying for it for them. But otherwise, I think it has to be their decision.

The prices you've posted are pretty standard for bridal party hair/makeup. I also think your request is pretty reasonable. Its your day and you want everything to look and be perfect, so I'm sure your friends will understand where you're coming from. Just keep in mind, depending on each girls financial circumstances, having both or even one done professionally, make not be an option for them. I was apart of a bridal party where this was the case, and even though that particular bridesmaid did everything herself, she still looked fabulous. I trust your friends will look equally fabulous if that were the case too.:)

I think you have to take their financial situations into account before requesting they have hair and/or makeup done. I gave my bridal party the option, and 2 girls are going to their own person and my MOH doesn't want to get her makeup done, but she cannot afford hair, and I can't afford to pay for her, so I'm leaving it up to her. There's an Ulta near my venue that I suggested her to go too since she just wants something simple. Ultimately though, I feel since I can't pay for it, I can't ask anyone to do anything.

Thankyou for all of the input! I will definitely think about giving themthe option for both. All of my girls can definitely afford it I just dont want my wedding to be too expensive for them! They arent paying anything towards my bridal shower and their dresses were only $100 so I am trying to keep costs as low as I can! Also everyone is local so there wont be any travel costs for them.

I've spent as little as $50 and as much as $150. I've also only gotten my hair and makeup done with the bride twice. All the other times I went elsewhere. Why not give them the option to go wherever they want?

In past weddings I've paid up to $100 for hair, but never was required to have my make up done professional for it. I've always expected to have to get my hair done for a wedding so I do not think that is a crazy request (unless you have a bridal party full of stylists who can do their own lol) but I agree with ladygoodman, let them chose where they want to go.

Just an idea... my sister wanted us to all do hair and makeup for her wedding, but recognized that she couldnt pay for it all. Instead, she gave us cash as part of our gift to help with the cost of hair and makeup!

I forgot to mention, my wedding is on a sunday so there aren't any salons open! I will be giving them the option to do what they want though, thank you for all of the input everyone!! :)

we are a sunday as well- we got a salon to open for us, and everyone agreed to do hair. Although some on here said it's technically not OK to say they have to do hair, I basically said they can go wherever they want (if they can find a place that is open) or hangout at the place I book and get hair done there. I told them makeup was optional but that I would really really appreciate if they all got hair done because it would look nicer in pictures.

Thank you, i am open to them finding somewhere else to go but the place I booked is having the hairdressers come to my house so same as you said if they want to come by me they are welcome to do that as well. I agree with you though I want everyone to have the opportunity to sit back and get their hair done professionally because not only will it look great in pictures but when do you really get to do that? Also since they arent paying for anything except their dress and shoes I think it is ok to ask that they pay $85 for hair but that being said I decided I will give them the option to do what ever they are comfortable with because I want everyone to be happy that day!! :)
