Bridesmaid Issue

Bridesmaid Issue

In 11 days I am to be married, and I'm overwhelmed and excited - however I have a situation I'm not sure how to handle...one of my bms (I've known her family since I was 4) has very ill father, and there is a possibility he may not make it in the next week or so. My friend has been on an emotional roller coaster, and I don't want to bug her with my wedding - however, she never got the dress fitted (she was planning to last week and then her father took a turn for the worse) and I'm not sure if she'll even make it to the wedding, with things the way they are. I feel terrible for my friend and I have no problem with her missing out on the wedding - however, I was wondering if anyone knows what dress shops do with dresses that are not picked up - I mean do they expect it to be paid for anyway (I put the deposit down for her in cash, but her information is on the receipt) I just want to avoid her getting collection calls from a bridal shop in the middle of all this - I'm hoping she'll still make it, but I know with all that's going on it's entirely possible she may not - ick, I don't want to call the bridal shop, I don't know if I'm jumping the gun, I hope everything works out - just looking to see if this happened to anyone else..

Your friend and her dad will be in my prayers.

I'd call the bridal shop and just ask what their policy is.... if it does involve some calling, I would just explain the situation and have the shop call you instead of your BM.

I am very very sorry your friend is going through such a difficult time.
I've been there and my heart aches for her.

Unfortunately, the receipt is a binding contract to purchase the dress. I am sure they can pursue your friend for final payment on the dress she ordered. You could check with the salon, I am sure this is not the first time a gown will not be used that was ordered. I would try to be non-specific so they don't start harrassing your friend now.

Sorry to hear you and your friend are going through this. I hope everything works out for her. I'd call the place and explain the situation and find out their policy. Maybe they will be able to return the dress and give you credit to buy other things from there if they have other bridal items available. I guess it all depends on the bridal store but it does not hurt to ask them. I'd also have the store speak to you instead of your friend to take this out of her time as she needs to concentrate in her father. My good wishes so that her father recovers.
