Grrr. I'm so angry right now and just need to vent! My FSIL and bridesmaid went on an impromptu trip this weekend and decided to get a tattoo that covers her ENTIRE right forearm. Now, I like tattoos (I don't have any but have nothing at all against them, in fact FH has quite a few and plans to get more) but we had a discussion about her getting more tattoos that will show in the beautiful flowwy lavender chiffon dress she will be wearing in church that day. She said it was her body, but then took it back and said she understood where we were coming from. CLEARLY NOT! My family is very conservative and my mother is having a coronary. I know this is such a small detail in the grand scheme of things, but I can't help but feel that now it's no longer going to be 'Oh, look how beautiful the bride looks!' it's going to be 'Oh, look at the groom's sister covered in tattoos.' It hurts me more that she said she understood and agreed to stop getting them where we can see them, and then did the exact opposite just a few weeks later. She already has tattoos on the insides of both forearms, on her shoulder, and inside of one upper arm, along with a host of other places on her body. We're going to look at these pictures forever and now what? Put her in a sweater in the middle of August when all the other girls will be wearing strapless or sleeveless dresses?
I don't expect you ladies to solve my melo-drama problems, I just needed a place to vent before I ripped FH's face off for shrugging his shoulders and saying 'Oh well.' ROAR!
Am I overreacting????

I realize now I was overreacting.. **** happens and it's her body. Fmil apparently spoke to her the other day about it because she was also upset because she had promised her no more visible tattoos before the wedding also and apparently her plan has been all along to cover ALL her tattoos that day by a pro. I feel like telling her she doesn't have tto do that just for me lol... Why get them if your plan is to cover them up at fancy events? She told fmil she doesn't like the way they look in formal attire. Aye yai yai. One less thing to think about I guess lol

All brides overreact at some point. It's good you asked. One less thing for you to think about!

I agree with the post everyone else agrees with. I definitely see both sides. There are ways to cover it, but if she has all these other tattoos that you knew about and were ok with showing, I'm not sure there is much of a point to cover just that one?

I think no bride has the right to tell any member of the wedding what they can do with their body.
