bridesmaid's dresses

I'm having 6 girls in my bridal party. I'm easy going and I prefer that the girls(18-34 in age)
choose there own dress...something that they can wear again. I'm going to ask them to choose something in a deep wine color, knee length. it
doesn't matter to me that they will all be a little
different - the flowers they'll be carrying - will all match. Is this too crazy.??? July 4th wedding

Re: bridesmaid's dresses

I think it is a great idea. My girls wore black and 2 of them already have plans to wear the dress again.

Re: bridesmaid's dresses

i thnk this is a good idea, but hav eyou thought of black? deep wine may be sold in different shades by different manufacturers, so be cautious if you want everyone to match exactly! There are some nice deep wine colored dresses on this website, plain, I don't know if they are still there. www.bridesmade.com good luck!

Re: bridesmaid's dresses

Something to consider -- I had a friend you wanted to let her bridesmaids choose their own style, so she provided them with fabric, and the name of a few reasonable dress makers. This way, they all matched on color and it didn't cost more then a pre-made dress.

Re: bridesmaid's dresses

I think that's great--if that's what you want-go for it!! I think it's so nice to keep it simple and easy going. This way you don't have to hear 'it' from each girl & who looks better in what and so forth! Go for it! The other ladies had a valid point though about the colors matching exactly so the pictures don't look weird! Good Luck! Let us know how it turns out!!

Re: bridesmaid's dresses

I think it's an awesome idea. Again - colors (including black) can vary by manufacturer. You may want them to all use the same manufacturer so that the colors are sure to match. Also - have you thought about separates? My girls are ALL different sizes and I found separates the way to please them all.

Good Luck!!

Re: bridesmaid's dresses

I think that is a good idea. May I suggest that you use the same designer and fabric, and then allow them to pick their own dress, that way they are happy and there is still some type of uniformity.

Re: bridesmaid's dresses

I think that is a great idea, but I would find the color you would most like and give a swatch to each girl and tell them to match their choice to the swatch of fabric you give them. That way, you will have a uniform look color-wise.

Re: bridesmaid's dresses

I think I'm going to choose several dresses from the same designer (same color) and have the girls choose their style. It is so hard to find one dress that is flattering on different people. I would rather let the girls choose from 4-5 styles.

Re: bridesmaid's dresses

Hmmm... Must be something about us 4th of July brides

I don't think it's crazy at all. I felt the same way and I didn't want to do 'real' BM dresses b/c the good quality ones are SO expensive. When I was tossing this idea around, my MOH had mentioned that there are many different shades of navy and that there might be a problem with the colors matching. So, I bought all the girls these beautiful navy shawls and told them to find floor-length dresses to match. This way they will have similar colored dresses, and the shawls will bring some uniformity to the BP...

I'll let you know how it all turns out! Good luck!

Re: bridesmaid's dresses

My sister did this recently in lavender and I think it looked very nice I plan to do the same in red. I do not mind if they are somewhat different from each other.

Re: bridesmaid's dresses

My girls got all different dresses and I wouldn't want it any other way. Theychose what they each felt comfortable in and what looked good on their shapes.

Re: bridesmaid's dresses

That's a great idea. I'm sure they are very thankful to you that they don't have to go out and spend $ on a dress that they will never wear again.
