bridesmaid's luncheon? what is that?

Should I do the luncheon the day of the wedding? Could I just provide finger food while we are getting ready? Or does it need to be a separate occassion with only bridesmaids (since there will be others around the day of the wedding).

Re: bridesmaid's luncheon? what is that?

I have never personally been to one but my mother went to one when her nephew got married. She said it was just a nice luncheon/brunch with the bride, bridesmaids, mothers, aunts, and grandmothers only.

Re: bridesmaid's luncheon? what is that?

It's usually done (I've never been to one held any other day) the day of the wedding..

I'm having a bridal 'breakfast/brunch' the day of mine at my mother's house.. it'll be for all my girls and I will be providing, bagels, fruit, coffee, tea, that kind of stuff.. while we're all getting ready..

Re: bridesmaid's luncheon? what is that?

Actually it's my understanding that the bridesmaids luncheon is done the day BEFORE the wedding when all the guys are playing golf (or whatever it is they do the day before). At least this was the case for the 3 I've been to. I will either be doing a small luncheon at the house or there's a very cute cafe in town. My mom, FMIL, FSIL and aunt will also be there.

Re: bridesmaid's luncheon? what is that?

According to Emily Post's wedding etiquette, it used to be british tradition that the bride takes her maids out for high tea at some point before the wedding. She concedes that since no one really does tea anymore (although I love the idea), it is customary to take your bridesmaids out and 'shower' them- either with a gift or meal of some sort.

Re: bridesmaid's luncheon? what is that?

hey jennyg, we're both sort of right.. I just read that it 'If it is possible, it is nice for the bride to have a luncheon for all of her attendants before her wedding. It used to be common to have it at the home, the day of the wedding, but things are usually much too hectic that day for anyone to want to have a luncheon.'

Technically its supposed to be before the wedding, but I'll eat whenever you're feeding me

Re: bridesmaid's luncheon? what is that?

I'm doing a BM luncheon since we're not having a rehersal dinner. I'm taking my girls for a Sunday brunch like 2 weeks before the wedding. I will be giving them their gifts there.

Re: bridesmaid's luncheon? what is that?

I'm doing a bridesmaids luncheon for my maids probably two or three weeks before the wedding. I'm taking them to a Japanese Restaurant where they cook in front of you. I'll give them their gifts then, too.

Personally, I can't imagine scheduling the luncheon the day of the wedding! Just way too busy and crazy for me! Even the day before is going to be hectic. I don't see anything wrong with giving it a few weeks or even a week before the wedding. JMHO

Re: bridesmaid's luncheon? what is that?

I'm having a luncheon the day before the wedding - (while the guys are golfing) - I rented a nail salon - we're getting manis/pedis and massages and serving appetizers and sandwiches. A good time should be had by all.
*I'm also including the moms and grandmas and readers too*
