Bridesmaids dresses??

We picked out my bridesmaids dresses and I have a problem with the whole alteration process and wanted to get your opinions on it. The dress is two pieces, top and bottom..the top is corset and the bottom is a-line type. When the lady was measuring my sister she said her bust is in a larger size category than her waist and butt so she has to order the dress in a MUCH bigger size than my sister would usually wear to accomodate her bust...better more fabric than not enough...what I don't understand is, if it's two pieces why can't the top and bottom be different sizes? The dresses aren't already made...I was told all the girls have to be measured before the order is placed so that they cut all the dresses from the same bolt of fabric...I'm going to ask the bridal shop about it when I go with my last 2 bridesmaids in 2 weeks for their measurements but I just wanted to ask if any of you guys have had experience with that?? I think they are just trying to get more money out of my girls....what do you think? Or is it something that everyplace does?

Re: Bridesmaids dresses??

I'm in the same situation...I'm a bridesmaid in an upcoming wedding, and the dresses are 2 pieces. Same thing- have to order the same size top & bottom, they come as a set. And I have been talking about how stupid this is- there are tons of women who are different sizes on top than bottom...I think it's just to get more $ for larger sizes and/or alterations. I think it's crap too!!!!!!!!

Re: Bridesmaids dresses??

I have the same problem. My dresses are bill levkoff and they told me that you can't order two different sizes through that designer. It is bull and I'm sure someone is making money because of it. I was also told they all have to order their dresses at the same time because when they dye the material it needs to be from the same batch, otherwise the colors could be off.

Re: Bridesmaids dresses??

I guess this is a problem I will be facing shortly because one of my girls dresses (I am stuck between 2 different ones) are two piece and two of my girls have really big boobs.

Thanks for the heads up, I will have to ask about this before I make my final decision.

Re: Bridesmaids dresses??

We had the same issue with the dresses from Watters and Watters. My MOH needs a size 2 bottom and a size 8 to accomodate her large chest (yeah, i hate her and her perfect body). She had to order an 8 and the dress will be altered to bring the bottom half in. Its so ridiculous that she could not order this two piece dress in two different sizes. It doesnt make any sense!
