I am in a real pickle here girls, and I need your help! My fiance and I sent out our wedding invitations last week. One of my bridesmaids informed me (after she received the invitation addressed to her only because she was single at the time) that she had just started dating a guy she went to school with. So now my question is, are we obligated to invite this new guy as well? My fiance and I are paying for the wedding ourselves, and money is tight enough as it is! Also, we didn't write 'and guest' on any of our other invitations to friends that were single. What should we do? My wedding is next month, and they'll only be dating for about 2 months by the time the big day gets here. She hasn't asked me if she could bring him, and I'm not sure she will, but I want to be prepared in case she does! Please help! Thanks so much!

Re: Bridesmaid's New Boyfriend?!
Hmm this is a really tough one... Maybe wait a few weeks and see how things go between them before extending the invite? If it's new love it might be too soon to ask him to something as serious as a wedding. I've never brought a guy as my guest to a wedding unless we were really serious with one another...
When the time does come though I really have to agree with the majority of girls on here that are saying you should extend it as a courtesy since she is a bridesmaid.
At the end of the day though it is YOUR wedding so if it doesn't feel right to you to invite him then you don't have to

I agree. If she wasn't in the BP I would say don't worry about it, but since she is I would extend the invitation.

My friend is in a similar situation.. She is letting her BM bring the new guy... if it is your good friend you can start trouble.. plus Im sure they would give extra money in their gift because they are now bringing a date.

I'd ask. She may not even want to bring him since she's in the BP.

Actually, I think the fact that she IS IN the bridal party would make me not extend the invite out to him. I don't know about your day and how it's scheduled, but for mine the BP is together ALL DAY. If they have long serious relationships, they don't even see their significant other's until the reception at night, really. This isn't a date. I expect my girls to be dancing with me and not worried about their new blossoming relationship. That's just me.
I agree. Being in a BP is like a job that day. You have things to do, you can't sit with your guest at the ceremony, and are gone for pictures a while. It's not like she is going to have tons of time to spend with him. And instead of spending time with you and your BP, she is going to be spending more time with him. It would be one thing if you all were friends with him, but since you don't know him he will feel kind of on the side there. It's also awkward for him during the ceremony and CH (at least it was for my FH when I was a BM and he didn't know anyone at the wedding except for me and the bride and groom). And my policy in general about weddings is it isn't a date night! A wedding is not a restaurant you take someone to to get to know them. It's a time for celebrating with people who are close to you. Not strangers.

Wow, I had never even thought of that before. You bring up a very valid point. My fiance and I will have to take that into consideration as well. Thank you for your input :)

Re: Bridesmaid's New Boyfriend?!
I think its etiquette to invite all BP members with a guest regardless, so I would have invited her with a guest from the get-go, and if not, I'd let her bring her new BF.

Re: Bridesmaid's New Boyfriend?!
When I was in my friends wedding last year, I was dating someone for about 4 or 5 months and was not invited with a guest because the bride didnt think we were serious. That person is now my fiancee. I think if they are in your bridal party extend the invite of a guest. If he doesnt know anybody and she is in the bridal party, he may even choose not to come.

Re: Bridesmaid's New Boyfriend?!
If she asks you, I would ask her if she really wants him there because he'll probably feel awkward sitting by himself for a good portion of time. If she's okay with it, then you can decide what's best for you, but I think most people wouldn't want their significant others to hang around by themselves (nor do I think the significant others want to hang around alone!)

I agree with this... you dont realize it but if the bridal party comes with guests (aside from being engaged), their guests are going to have to be alone for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and whenever you are called away for pictures... we are sending invites to them without a guest, and if we end up having room, we will verbally extend the invitation for them to bring a guest but they have to keep in mind that they arent going to see them until about 8 pm that night when the wedding starts at 3... and i know my girls will have more fun just hanging out together than having to worry about a date

Re: Bridesmaid's New Boyfriend?!
I would actually let her know when you get your RSVP's back only because you probably budgeted a certain way and sometimes you just can't swing it. One of our GM's asked that about a new relationship and we told him money is really tight so we will let him know once we get the rsvp back. He was fine with it but sometimes girls aren't as easy.
