Bridezillas...Have you noticed....

On that show, people are booking their weddings like, 3 months in advance? I don't get it! How are people doing this 3 months in advance, when we have a board that helps brides with wedding 3 years away? Also, hardly ANYONE gets married in a reception hall! Is this a NY thing? Can I do my final grad school study on the 'Wedding Culture of the NY area'?

actually some places dont have catering halls like we do. This girl at work was looking through my RH book, and she didnt understand exactly what type of place it was, i had to explain it to her, she didnt know there were places made especially for weddings and big functions. She said in boston they dont have catering halls like here in NY, all the weddings she went to were at country clubs. Also I saw on the knot when it became a huge discussion that cash bars in boston are the norm

I agree - Weddings in the tri-state area are VERY different from the rest of the country

Yup and cocktail hours are different in many other places. They basically serve cheese & crackers and fruit, and maybe a handful of passed hor's dourves. I ve even seen on the knot quite a few people doing just dessert receptions

I once went to a wedding in Maine. My boyfriend of the times sister had moved up there a few years before and was getting married. We had visited quite a few timese and didn't think anything of a wedding in Maine.

Well we went and I wore one outfit for the church, then went to the reception and people there were wearing jeans, very casual. My boyfriend and I felt like we were over dressed, but still got compliments.

very uncomfortable because I didnt want others to feel like we were trying to upstage the bridal party.

Bride was beautiful and wonderful. We never thought to ask her what to wear. So now I know
TRI STATE area weddings are definitely the most lavished ones!

Yea. I'm in a wedding upstate in Rochester, and she's having it at a party house. And it's a buffett dinner, with a 3 hr open bar, then cash bar. That's how they do it up there. I went to 2 other weddings up there and it was the same. Both were at hotels, in the ballrooms of the hotels... We're just lucky to have all these goregous places!

my future sister n law's wedding was in montana. her wedding was different. cocktail hour was a rather small tray of cheese and fruit. fh and i went up to the bar and realized it was a cash bar. only the people in the bridal party and certain people with corsages (luckily i got one) had free drinks. also we ordered our dinner choice three months in advance.

yup, FH's sister moved from NY to NC and she had her wedding down there and she had a nice wedding but nothing huge or fancy. But all her friends from NC thought the cocktail hour was the party and her friends thought it was the best wedding in the world because it had a cocktail hour AND a sit down dinner.

On one episode of Bridezillas, they sent in their dinner choice with the RSVP cards! What if you change your mind in the 6 weeks that you reply and the wedding?

a friend went to a wedding in Virginia and it was in their backyard...very casually dressed...the bride only wore a white plain gown style dress

Re: Bridezillas...Have you noticed....

I have a friend who applied to be on 'A Wedding Story' on TLC and was accepted. But they told her that the camera crews and everyone were booked for the date of her wedding, and if she wanted to be on the show, her wedding would have to be one week earlier. So she'd have to change the date of her wedding, with about 2 months' notice to everyone. She refused, because of all the inconvenience that would entail, and wasn't on the show.

So I'm thinking that something similar happens with Bridezillas. Maybe all the running around they do to get stuff done is because they've had to change their wedding date, and then Bridezillas makes it seem like they've been there to capture every moment of the bride's planning?

I think cash bar is crazy. FH just thew his company a holiday party, he invited all his employees with guests, and had unlimited open bar.

My friend went to a wedding upstate NY, it was open bar but they were using Fleishmans vodka(in plastic bottles) Everyone got really sick from the poor quality alcohol they were serving.

I have heard stories from friends who have gone to out of state weddings. Its totally different. Cocktail hour is just cheese and crackers and fruit, just like u guys are saying

Then the dinner is sometimes buffet. With chafing stations and pasta stations (normally at a ny cocktail hour)

I do not believe in going into debt to pay for a wedding, nor do i believe a wedding is a 'smart' investment. But i do want guests to have plenty to eat and plenty to drink and celebrate with us!

Yeah wedding sin ny are totally different from the rest of the country. I went to a wedding in vermont one time. People just wore jeans and had everyone go back to there house. It was so weird.

It's amazing how casual weddings are outside the tri-state area!! Puts in in perspective, especially later when I know I'll be obsessing with whether or not I need to have something! The answer is a no!!

Re: Bridezillas...Have you noticed....

some LI brides start off going to catering halls saying they are having a party and then last minute make it into a wedding with out hinting to halls. I know of only two cases of this but the service was teh same and the money was considerably less.

Every family member out of state that i know who have gotten married spent about 5-8k on their entire wedding including a hm.

you can't change your choice and beef out of state and not always cooked the same so fh had a hockey puck.

Re: Bridezillas...Have you noticed....

Oh not only that but MANY places in other states will have only one entree choice, and if they want to add a second choice they have to pay extra pp, this is very common too
