Aside from bringing a baby into a place with mostly sick people I think bringing a baby will brighten someones day. Who doesn't think that kids are cute?

yeah I was thinking the same thing...his fiance was told by the drs to make funeral arrangements for him...and he was in a coma,on a respirator...and now is off and somewhat lucid
who klnows? I ve heard about this twlight stage...and then we usually lose them afterward

I think we will take J to see him, even if it is for just a bit

I personally would not bring J into an area where people are that sick. Children can bring joy but this man is very ill. I also would let DH go alone. If DH is this man's close friend, and you are not that close to him I would probably just not go. It is just my opinion though.

Did this friend request to see the baby? Will he be able to realize that she is Robs daughter?
If it really is a close person to Rob and Rob feels that it would be a last heartwarming moment for this man, then I would bring her.
If you dont know the guy too well, and if he hasnt requested seeing the baby, maybe he wouldnt feel up to seeing anyone beside Rob since he's closer to him? it really depends on the situation.
I do think lifting someones spirits can work wonders... tough call. are babies even allowed on that floor ?

yep babies are allowed...he was moved out of icu is NOT on a repirator any longer...is sitting up for short periods of time....and is in a regular hospital room...

I think we are going...and I am just going to bring Julianne in for a very short short short visit...a peek...that is all

i hate the idea of all those germs...but he has cancer and that is not contagious

Phyl, I am so sorry your friend is so ill. I understand that cancer is not 'contagious', but germs are also not confined to just one area of the hospital. I would definitely NOT take Julianne into the hospital. Maybe you shoudl just send Rob with a stack of pictures of J....perhaps leaving a couple behind to help his friend smile when he looks at them. Hi Phyl--being a nurse I know how many germs there are in a hospital and we are very strict with allowing any child under 12 to visit patients. However, we do have exceptions if a patient is terminally ill. Sometimes, it makes a difference to have that patient see a baby. Is there any way that he can be wheeled to like a coffee shop, cafeteria, or lobby for a short while so J wouldn't have to be on the floors? If not, I would say take her but only for a short period.

Re: bring J 2 c our dying friend in the hospital?

hi girls...I was really torn about this..we took her in..stayed in the room for 2 min internvals..she was a bit fussy and close to her dinnertime. I nursed her b4 we went up but I guess she wanted something more substantial. so, we spent a bit of time out in the hall by the window watching birds and traffic.
I made sure she touched nothing but me..,

Our friend was pretty much in and out of it. saw only 2 sparks of recognition while we were there...and one was when J was brought over to say so long.

This was a very sad visit...we talked with another friend of club happenings...hoping to bring Jerry a little gossip/day to day goings on as he would normally be in the mix of all of this.

When we walked in he was barely recognizable. He was always a thin man but he lost sooo much wieght,,that well he didn't look good.

I could not wait to get out of there...and I'm glad (altho guilty) that we came 1.2 hour b4 visiting hours were over.

Im glad we went...I have been praying for him that g-d decides to be merciful .

Thanks for your input and concern. I hated the idea of bringing her into that petri dish of sickness,...

It is the worst to see a loved one ill. I really hope that he can find peace.

IMO, I would not bring the baby to the hospital, there are germs there, and a baby does not have the immunity of an adult. Also, having 2 sick parents that have both passed away, I would have been not too happy to have seen a baby while I was so upset, especially if the baby is crying etc. This is just my opinion, and it is really up to you what you want to do, you have to do what is right for you. I am so sorry to hear about your friend, he is in my thoughts and prayers.

thanks everyone!

yeah- I thought and thought about this one. J was a good little girl and didnt cry at all...and bringing her cheered him/gave him a small spark...and also gave hubby and our friend something else to talk about while they were at bedside.

Was strange for these guys since they haven't really encountered anyone who is at this stage ...in a hospital...sooo its like we walked in, said hi to the patient...asked if his fiane had bben in to see him...talked about our mutual club for a bit..then they were searching for things to say. They didnt want to talk about the obvious....or even ask Jer how he was doing for fear of what he would say.

I came in an prattled on for a bit...but I felt like I was carrying the load there...
Funny when these GUYS dont know how to handle this life situation.

What do you say to a person who may or may not make it ? I asked if I could get him anything to make him comfortable...but even that seemed like a loaded ?,,,,so we made some small talk, let him know that we spoke to our other mutual friends, and that he would have others come visit him this weekend..,

thanks for your support gals....lately I feel like I am the ZIGGY CLOUD on this board...nothing but a downer....
