Broker vs. Bank for your mortgage

I'm sorry if this has been asked before...

but is there any benefit to using one over the other. I was told it's better to go with the bank b/c the mortgage brokers bake in a 1-2% fee.

Any thoughts?

We originally started working with a broker and didn't feel like he was being completely honest with us. I think brokers do the leg work in trying to find you the best interest rate etc. but not sure how true that is since they tack on an additional fee.

We eventually stopped working with the broker and did a lot of the leg work ourselves contacting banks etc.

if you have the time and patience to go to all the banks and look for the best rate...that is probably the best...


but a broker does offer you plans that you may not have heard of...or a bank that you didn't go to...
