Has anyone been there to see the holidays lights?? If so do u recommend going?

I do. but leave your wallet and treasured belongings at home.. the BZ isn't as safe as it used to be..

I live right by there, it looks pretty. Hubby went last yr, he said it was cool but freezing, and that most of the animals don't come out in the cold, so you don't see much.
If you just want to walk around to see the lights then OK If you want to see animals, not worth it.

I never went to the one at the Bronx Zoo but Jones Beach does this also whoever its a drive through one. You tune ure car radio into the station and it plays the music and such. I think Tuesday is 2for Tuesday u drive threw twice for the price as one.
It's beautiful and worth going. Like Liz I live right around the corner.
However, I'm insulted when people think the Bronx is a place where you get mugged - Hell you can get mugged ANYWHERE in ANY STATE! The Bronx is a great place to live and I don't think it's some crime ridden neighborhood.
I have my opinions about the suburbs, but I'll keep it to myself.
Sorry if I'm being harsh, but that's my neighborhood, so I must defend it. Maybe people should drive around the area a bit and look around, you all might be surprised at how rich in culture and beautiful that area is!

Person I work with says they bring her daughter every year and raved!!!
And if I'm not mistaken, it costs $ to get into the Bronx Zoo, and I can't imagine MUGGERS paying an entrance fee!! ... words of a Queens girl ...

hard to pay to get in with your wallet at home!
it's not that bad, actually. but yes do be aware of your surroundings!!!!
ETA: I have been to the Zoo many times while I have lived in the Bronx and I have never heard of any muggings here. However, I have only gone during the day on weekends when you have many more people and it's light out. At night, might be a different story. However, just because it's in the Bronx doesn't mean it's 'mugging territory'!
Also, another great holiday treat is going to the NY Botanical Gardens which is right near the Zoo. They have a train show that is supposedly really cool. I have yet to see it but I am going this year.
I highly recommend that you go!! Go on a beautiful cold crisp night....its a WONDERFUL walk...Harry and I did it 2 years ago and plan on doing it again this year!! Bundle up and talke a nice walk!!
Its VERY safe in the park....we didnt have any problems! as fas as animals go...there are a few...and some of the'houses' are open, but the fun of it is the lights...so beautiful!!
