Brooklyn Bride needs help -- afraid of alterations at David's Bridal

Hi girls,

I'm currently in the middle of a panic attack. I purchased my wedding gown at the David's Bridal in Westbury back in November. I had a wonderful experience and my bridal consultant (Vicki) made sure that everything went smoothly. I went to pick up my mom's dress last week and was appalled by the change in the store. Gone are the sweet, helpful sales assistants -- they've been replaced by rude, surly, short-tempered girls. The manager who had helped me is gone, and no one can tell me 'when Vicki will be back.' Additionally, I've been reading HORRIBLE reviews on here about their alterations department, which is where I was originally planning to have my gown altered. It needs a lot of work. I'm only 4'11', so it needs to be hemmed quite a bit, but from the waist, since there is too much detailing at the bottom. I've also lost a considerable amount of weight (and boobs) since picking up the dress, so it needs to be taken in at the top.

HELP!! What do I do???

Do I have my wedding gown altered there, or would another David's Bridal location be better? (One of my bridesmaids is going to the one in Springfield, NJ on Route 22.)

Do I go to a private seamstress? I live in Brooklyn, but don't know of any reputable seamstresses. Two of my BMs who live in Boston are getting theirs done privately.

Additionally, I don't drive -- so anywhere I go will need to be easy enough for my FMIL to get to.

My wedding is THREE MONTHS FROM TOMORROW! I am totally freaking out and sick to my stomach -- my biggest fear is that the alterations are going to be messed up. My dress style has been discontinued, so it's not even like I could replace the dress if something happens to it.

Can anyone here PLEASE help me?

I'll be checking the boards, but you can also email me at [email protected]. I would GREATLY appreciate any and all suggestions. I feel like I am going to cry.

Hi Melissa....I totally understand your concern! I also bought my dress at the Westbuyr Davids...what a nightmare! They are very unhelpful!
I don't have a seamstress in NY, but I live in CT and had my dress done at the David's in Orange. What a great experience!! Everyone in taht store is soooo nice. I have had the best experience with their seamstress Katia...she did my first fitting and managed not to cut off the design on the bottom (I'm short too!). If you don't mind driving about an hour or so, it's pretty easy to get to....it's exit 42 off of I-95...that's a straight run from the Throg's neck. I highly recommend Katia...when I've been there (and I've gotten 2 party dresses altered there too), people were constantly bringing her things to fix that had previously been tailored. She's amazing!
