Brooklyn Bride needs help -- afraid of alterations at David's Bridal

Hi girls,

I'm currently in the middle of a panic attack. I purchased my wedding gown at the David's Bridal in Westbury back in November. I had a wonderful experience and my bridal consultant (Vicki) made sure that everything went smoothly. I went to pick up my mom's dress last week and was appalled by the change in the store. Gone are the sweet, helpful sales assistants -- they've been replaced by rude, surly, short-tempered girls. The manager who had helped me is gone, and no one can tell me 'when Vicki will be back.' Additionally, I've been reading HORRIBLE reviews on here about their alterations department, which is where I was originally planning to have my gown altered. It needs a lot of work. I'm only 4'11', so it needs to be hemmed quite a bit, but from the waist, since there is too much detailing at the bottom. I've also lost a considerable amount of weight (and boobs) since picking up the dress, so it needs to be taken in at the top.

HELP!! What do I do???

Do I have my wedding gown altered there, or would another David's Bridal location be better? (One of my bridesmaids is going to the one in Springfield, NJ on Route 22.)

Do I go to a private seamstress? I live in Brooklyn, but don't know of any reputable seamstresses. Two of my BMs who live in Boston are getting theirs done privately.

Additionally, I don't drive -- so anywhere I go will need to be easy enough for my FMIL to get to.

My wedding is THREE MONTHS FROM TOMORROW! I am totally freaking out and sick to my stomach -- my biggest fear is that the alterations are going to be messed up. My dress style has been discontinued, so it's not even like I could replace the dress if something happens to it.

Can anyone here PLEASE help me?

I'll be checking the boards, but you can also email me at [email protected]. I would GREATLY appreciate any and all suggestions. I feel like I am going to cry.

I don't know where in bklyn you live, but I used an excellent seamstress when I was a Maid of Honor, with a David's Bridal dress. She works in a dry cleaner ( I know that sounds bad, but she did excellent work on my dress) on Smith Street off President in Carroll Gardens. Good luck! Don't stress, you and your dress will be beautiful!

I would take it somewhere else.

My SIL had her gown altered at David's in Carle Place (before it moved to its new location) and they ruined the gown. They had to order her a whole other gown and start over.

Granted this was 3 years ago -- but I would save yourself the stress and go elsewhere!

I can't think of the name of the store right now, but it is also a dry cleaner/tailor in Bensonhurst on 86th Street between 17th & 18th Avenues. Not far from Maid to Order. They have been there for years and she may be able to do it. Good luck. If you go another clue you have the right store is that they have an older son who is mentally challenged.

Don't freak out!!

You should definetely find a local seamstress though, they can usually get the job done faster and much less expensive than DB. I'm not a big fan of their people either.

GO TO KELLY'S CREATION ON 18TH AVENUE..
THEY ARE REALLY REALLY REALLY GOOD WITH ALTERATIONS.

GO.

I wouldn't have any alterations done there at David's.. I saw the same transformation that you saw- they were really rude.
I hope that you find someone that will do a excellent job on your gown!

I'm a suffolk bride, so the exact name left my mind a while ago, since brooklyn is quite a drive, but I recall someone raving about a seamstress in brooklyn..... Basically a phyllis (suffolk's famous seamstrss) for brooklyn....

maybe checkout the vendors in NYCweddings?

I bought my dress at Davids in Westbury and had a good experience buying my dress and heard nothing but bad things about the alterations there. So I went to Phyllis a vendor on here. I would go somewhere else

I know a woman in Bensonhurst Brooklyn that does bridal alterations for a living - she is very trustworthy! FM me if you want more info.
