I heard it on 1010Wins radio too. It's the one in BayRidge, Bklyn. The owner at first said that they didn't have any problems at all, but then an internal memo was found saying not to tell customers of 'their little bug problem' LITTLE? YUCK!!!

I hope no one has gone there recently!!

Here is the story from the NY Post:

June 27, 2003 -- Here comes the bride - scratching.
David's Bridal store on 86th Street in Bay Ridge has been infested with fleas on and off since late April, company brass admitted yesterday.

'This is disgusting - just imagine some poor bride walking down the aisle scratching herself,' said one staffer.

'People are coming in and trying on dresses, and the fleas are biting the girls.'

Staffers at the Brooklyn outlet believe the critters arrived in a shipment of tulle from overseas, then spread through the three-story building - part of a nationwide chain of 200 stores.

David's Bridal manager Cindy Mennona, questioned at the store yesterday, said she 'didn't know of' any flea problem.

But company spokesman Gary Schwartz, when confronted with copies of internal documents obtained by The Post, 'fessed up.

The corporate office has repeatedly ordered precautionary spraying and made personal inspections, Schwartz said.

'Much to our dismay, we found that the problem has raised its head again,' he said.

He said there was 'no way' the fleas came from overseas.

Company e-mails show how the store tried to control the spread of both fleas and rumors.

'There are very small bugs all over the toulle [sic] dresses,' a manager wrote in an April 29 e-mail.

'They are jumping from dress to dress when the customers put them on. One of my associates was bit in the hand and the other just called the exterminator because she brought them home with her. They were in her jacket . . . We need help.'

Then, in an e-mail dated May 1, manager Andrew Durant wrote: 'Store 53 Brooklyn is currently infested with fleas and lice. In order to prevent the bugs from spreading to other stores, I would ask that we stop requesting transfers [of dresses] from Store 53 as of today . . . and until operations lets us know that the problem is fixed.'

Then, on May 3, in an e-mail to the Bay Ridge store, Mennona wrote, 'Of course, we want to keep the information about our little bug friends confidential. It could be a bad thing to get out to the public and hurt our business.'

'I don't know that we have a flea problem,' Mennona said from behind the Bay Ridge store's counter yesterday.

When a reporter pointed out a note with 'Fleas' written in bold script on the store's appointment book, Mennona quickly swiped it away.

Said company spokesman Schwartz: 'It's not something that we take lightly, and we have addressed the issue and documented how we have done that.'

oh yuck!!!

i got my dress at the david's in carle place. i hope they didn't transfer it in from brooklyn!!! i've had it since last summer and haven't had any problems so i think i'm safe....

althought this has happened, did anyone think maybe a bride(s) on here may be getting her dress there?

When i was in college - I worked as a Management Intern at JCPenney in Bay Shore.
They also had fleas and couldn't get rid of them.
Flea bites are really annoying!!!!
I feel really bad for people who have been there.
Once you bring them back to your house - you can start a new infestation.
Be careful!!!!
(this happnes everywhere though - I think my horror is that they lied about it rather than dealing with it)

Definitely a great suggestion to ask them to clean a dress for you before you take it home. I heard that the fleas came in with a fabric shipment....any one know where the shipment came from?

I agree with Jenn......we should be sensitive to those who may have gotten their dress there.

Isn't it possible that someone had fleas at their house (from their dog or cat) and went to the DB store? Could have happened that way....

I knew about this for a month. My dad is the Orkin man and did an inspection last month. They originally had Terminex but thought they were expensive, then called Orkin. Orkin they thought was too expensive and wound up not going with anyone.

My dad swore me to secrecy so I couldnt say anything to the girls on here.
