My very close friend is due in 2 weeks. Anyway, prior to announcing her pregnancy her father and mother bought everyone in the family tickets to go on a cruise together (the whole family, 3 sisters spouse and her parents). At the time of the cruise the baby will be 3 months old. The cruise line that they are traveling with does not allow children under 4-5 months. So she cannot bring the baby. Her family is INSISTING that she and DH go because they will lose the money. They feel that she should be able to leave the baby with her DH's family. She does not think that she will be ready to leave a new baby for 5-7 days.
So my question is, looking back would you have been comfortable leaving your baby for 5-7 days at 3 months of age??? Or should she start a huge fight with her parents???

Honestly, I just couldn't. Alia is tuning seven months and I still can't go out anywhere without her. I know, is bad but i'm so attached to her.

i think it's healthy to get away without the baby, but 5 days when you are somewhere that God forbid something happens, it's not like you can just hop a flight back home. My mother in law is awesome with angela - we were planning to go away when she was 5 months old for 5 days and she was going to watch her, I had no reservations what so ever. This was going to be in my own home, and I had observed her with angela many times from morning till night so I felt totally comfortable. It also depends, is the baby sleeping through the night? that's a lot to ask someone, to get up in the middle of the night with your child, also, do they work? how could they watch her day and night for 5 days if they work?

I wouldn't want to leave my daughter for several days and she's a year old. Some people have no problem leaving there baby with a family member for a few days while they go away. Some people do.

I would not be able to leave my baby at such a young age. I totally feel for your friend. Maybe they can work something out with the cruise line to take a different trip later on?? Even if theres a penalty fee, at least they wont lose ALL their money. just a thought.

Sadly, this is their annual family trip. I am shocked that they are pressuring her honestly to leave the baby but they truly are giving her crap. She wanted to make sure that she and I are both not nuts in saying that we couldn't leave a baby that young. As her BIL said that baby will still have a new baby smell on it. Thank you I will share with her all that you guys have said!

To be perfectly honest - not a chance - there was no way anyone could take me away from my little one that soon!

Re: BTDT--- need advice for a friend
When my daughter was 3 months I didn't want to go out for a nite out with my FH not even for a few hours he had to drag me out. My daughter is now 7 months I had to have surgery last month and my mom took my daughter for 2 weeks becuz IU was bed ridden and wouldn't be able to tend to marissa's (my daughter) needs its was the hardest thing for me I missed her dearly and I called my mom 100 times a day to check on the baby. I can imagine

My daughter is almost 4 months old, and I would NEVER be able to leave her for that long to take a vacation. Just leaving her for work every day is hard enough. Also if she wanted to breastfeed being gone that long would also be a problem
