Budget

Budget

So I had to ask this question...what does everyone say when a vendor (in my case, it's the catering halls, which we have yet to book) ask your budget? I have no desire to share that with them, but don't want to come off argumentative or shady. I've just been kind of mumbling through it lol! Or when I've said that a per head price is more than we can afford, and they say, 'Well what can you afford?' AAH!

i tell them that i'm not really sure about my budget (don't have a set one) .... but i'd like to stay as low as possible ... then they give me a number and i negotiate regardless

I think the only person that really needs to know your budget is a coordinator. I agree say you don't have a set budget you are just checking out prices to see what you are comfortable with. Always see if you can get them to go lower.

i think that you really need to come up with some sort of budget ... theres no problem checking out prices to get an idea of how much it costs in general... but if they ask you what youre willing to pay you have to have some idea

They want to know your budget so that can give you a figure as high as your budget allows. They want to make as much money as they can.

I would check out a few places and see if the price is good or if maybe you can get lower elsewhere.

Re: Budget

We do have a budget, and I do know the roundabout price I need to stay within for the catering hall, but like another girl noted in reply to this post, if I give them my $ allowance, they're just going to quote me a tad over it! So, I really don't want to be honest about that. Everyone keeps saying that places will negotiate with you, but I have yet to experience that w/ anywhere except for East Wind. Capt Bill's in Bayshore let me walk away over $10/head w/in 10 months from the date! What can I say...I really **** at bargaining! Unfortunate b/c I need to save every penny I can!

None of my vendors have asked for a budget. I would just say that I am working on it and looking to get some prices.

No RH asked me for my buget either.... they just tell you what the pp rate is based on the specific day/month...etc

ITA i always give them a low number to leave some room for negotiating whether i'm really interested or not. If i really want to pay $100 i'll tell them $75 and hopefully we can meet somewhere in the middle. You don't have to be 100% honest with them...

when we were booking vendors and they asked us this, i never told em. i felt maybe theyd use that price instead of going a lil lower.

i say tell them look x company is giving me this for that at this price and my budget was less then that what can u do bc at this point your company is still available!! play the game with them if they are still available then probably they need the money just as much as you want to save ur money... try to deal dont let them pressure u into nething its ur day n thats it... just say ur budget is 15K n go from there.. trust! i did that for everything n i am getting married on saturday n lets just say i bargain very well!

Re: Budget

I first did a preliminary budget on what we can afford and then what I did was check out prices online and through this website first and figured out my final budget based on that. Lets say if I looked up photo prices and they are between $1000 and $5000 dollars I would base my budget on that. I did alot of research first. I even cut out certain things based on what I can afford.
HTH somewhat.

Re: Budget

when I went looking for an RH, at first my sister & I would go to check them out. We where always asked what the budget was & I simply would say, 'My parents will be paying but they do not live in the area.' Before we left we would ask for all package information, which included different menus & prices for different days & times. Then my parents would review the information & decided which day/time/menu fit best into the money they had saved.
