So I had to ask this question...what does everyone say when a vendor (in my case, it's the catering halls, which we have yet to book) ask your budget? I have no desire to share that with them, but don't want to come off argumentative or shady. I've just been kind of mumbling through it lol! Or when I've said that a per head price is more than we can afford, and they say, 'Well what can you afford?' AAH!

Re: Budget
I just said that we are still working out the budget and no one seemed to question it.

Re: Budget
I have yet to meet with any vendor other than my RH, but when I do I am basically going to give them a range of where I would like the total cost to be.
Like the florist for example, I would like to keep it under $2k so when I go, I am going to tell the florist I would like it to stay somewhere between $1500-$1750, that way if she goes a little over I'm still within my budget.

Lowball them! That's what I'd do. I'd tell them a couple hundred under my budget and see what they say and where we can go from there. That is how you haggle after all.

Re: Budget
I actually did get the question a few times, places like to see that you have all your ducks in a row and you are thinking about a budget. So what I said was 'yes, we have a budget but I am not comfortable sharing it.' Basically it shows them you're serious but doesn't compromise what you are really thinking and it also avoids them high-balling prices.
I've also found the places most likely to ask you those questions are the more expensive ones anyway.
Good luck!

Re: Budget
never had a vendor ask me THAT question!! Good thing because I wouldn't have told them anyway!
