I'm writing a speech for school and the bridal industry is what I'm talking about, (I've been writing this for weeks! ) so with that in mind, how many of you did/expect to go over budget, and by how much? I'm not interested in your exact budget (that's your business). And if anyone went under budget (HA!) I'd love to know the secret!
Any info will help! Thanks!

Re: Budgets
We went over..best guess as of now (without final headcounts, etc..) I would say about $6K over.

Re: Budgets
We TOTALLY went overbudget.. first off with the venue, then the church, my dress (luckily momma dukes is paying for that ;)) uhm, what else.. oh yeah, favors, hmm oh yeah, my wedding ring..... and all the little extras.. =/ I would say that we went over about 10K if not more easily.. I wont't know the exact amount (and I'm sure it's ALOT more, but I'll keep 10k down because it makes me feel better ) until the wedding is over..

Re: Budgets
LOL, Marcella!!
I've only booked my florist, photographer and hall and I know I'm over budget!! How sad!
My guestimate is that people are on average $10k over...so don't feel so bad!

Re: Budgets
We pretty much went under budget. I had a good book that gave me a pretty accurate calc for a NY wedding but it was dependent on how much you start with and I think we were generous with our starting number.
Things that helped us keep our budget: # of guests (we invited 277 but 175 came!), got a great price on our hall (but we also took a big risk), mom paid for my gown (which we didn't plan on) and we are both anal when it comes to finances. The discounts/savings we found we were able to get extras and put towards the honeymoon.

Re: Budgets
I started off with a budget, then I added to it, then I added to it again... I think once everything is done, I should be good, maybe 1 or 2k over....

Re: Budgets
prior to realizing costs of the band and photographers, our budget was x. We then incorporated the realistic costs of those two items, and came up with y, which was 50% more than x.
We expect to stay within y budget.

Re: Budgets
I think we are right on target - maybe $500 to $1k over. I went way over on somethings, and trimmed it back in other places.

Re: Budgets
Budget wise I think we are doing ok. I think if we go over it wont be much. Maybe 2 or 3K over.

Re: Budgets
Once I realized how much the reception was going to cost, we were over by 10K. But I think we'll be able to maintain the second figure! Fingers crossed...

Re: Budgets
We were exactly on budget until my mom added 25 people to the guest list...oy. So that is the only thing we went over. About $3000.

Re: Budgets
Not knowing what ONE thing cost before we started planning, I'd say all in all we went over budget for just the wedding (not counting rings or HM) by $5,000-6,000.

Re: Budgets
We stayed pretty much on target for each item, and when I did go over a lot on one catagory, I took away from another.

Re: Budgets
We pretty much stayed right at our budget and did the same as Michele. At first i didn't plan on getting a video (which we wound up getting and it is the best decision ever made!), but the money I saved negotiated with the photographer, hall, etc paid for the video. Doing things like that will keep you on budget and allow you to still have what you want.
