we did... our wedding was in NJ... we had a buffet of penne vodka, chateau briand beef, and chicken piccante, plus some sides and bread. the salad was served at the table.
our guests really liked it because they could try a little bit of everythign and not be 'stuck' with one choice.... also they could get as much as they wanted- our best man had like 3 helpings of the chateau briand- LOL

cool. I'm contemplating doing one, but my mother is against it.

yeah... it really depends on the 'feel' you want for the wedding. i think buffet are less formal, but thats what we wanted- we didn't want a big, fancy 'production'. just a nice day with our friends and family that was more laid- back.

Thats EXACTLY why we're doing buffet...we're getting married in Austria (FH is Austrian) and since a few members fo my family are really picky, we figured this is the safe way to go. And we also don't want to to be a big formal affair, but more relaxed.

My concern was people spilling stuff, but I'm a control freak like that. We went with service.

foodie here..... I really prefer to SEE food before eating it... just by looking at something, you can frequently tell if you'll like it.... Also, with waiterservice, you always have meat, and no matter what your entree selection... the same potato or rice and vegetable.... The starch and veg are usually bland and almost afterthoughts...

so, BUFFET IT IS

we currently have penne a la vodka, prime rib, and chicken cordon bleu.... along with 3 different salads, and a potato and veg. We're debating adding another meat option.....

Waiter service is nice, but control over your plate is better, from my perspective....

One of the reasons we went with the Metropolitan. They do not serve the same potato and vegetable with each entree. Each entree is entirely unique (and the food is sooooo good)

my sister did- she had wanted family style, but because of what she was serving it needed to stay warm, so they did a buffet. It was actually really nice and the best food! People are still going on about how good it was and her wedding was last July. Buffets can be great if done right! She ahd an outdoor wedding on the water so there was a semi-casual feel to it.

We're having a buffet. My favorite parts of weddings are always the cocktail hour and viennese, so we're having a buffet dinner and a home made viennese hour. All of the guests I've told about it are really excited.

I was originally going to have a buffet but with over 250 guest it is just impractical. With so many guest, I think the line would wayyyy too long.

By the time the last person gets his/her plate, the person who got their plate first will be done with their food.

yeah im having buffet style, i think its better so the guests can mingle around and get up whenever they want. i was gonna have the sit down but why pay so much more when buffet truely is in my opinion alot better. i think its just a personal opinion though, everyone is different :)

we did buffet and were very happy with our decision. we had 100 people and two buffet station, so there werent any long lines and such. people got to have seconds and try a lot of different food.

You know what would be cool? To have the entire wedding be like the cocktail hour! with the stations and the pssed horsdourves! But I dunno that anyone offers this as a package. haha but people always say its their favorite part of teh wedding! :)

I did! It moved quicker so there was more time to dance and party.
The food was AMAZING and there was TONS of it! My guests loved that they had so many options and could eat until they were stuffed!

i looked into that....and most places charged the same price as a sit down dinner. They said to have it like that for 5 hrs...thats ALOT of food they need to have on hand and ready to go. So we went w. a sit down...buffet is me!

I am... i come from a family of big eaters... if we had a sit down... i can see my family telling each other... you'll have the chicken... he'll have the beef... i'll have the fish and when it comes... we can all share
So why go thru the hassle... might as well have it all!!!
