Re: Buffet weddings

Nope..but I am biased because I had a buffet dinner. I did it for budget reasons, but in the end a lot of my guests LOVED the fact that they were able to pick and choose what they wanted and how much. We had a lot of choices. Also, our buffet was really organized. I have seen really horrible and chaotic buffet lines....that I'd have a problem with.

I have to be honest and say that in NY it would definitely take me aback.

That having been said, if it's well organized and there's plenty of delicious food, sounds good! The CH is best part of any wedding and that's basically buffet style!

It totally depending on Budget.....BUT, IMO...for a wedding, i would be disappointed if it was buffet. Again, IMO...i rather invite less people and do a sit down than a buffet.
Again, no offense to those that had a buffet wedding....for me, i just couldnt do it.

i say yes only because it really changes the flow of the night. you have to spend so much time waiting in line and that means less time talking with the people at your table. plus the last wedding i went to that was buffet (it was upstate never went to an LI buffet wedding) the food was cold and trays sparsely full by the time we got up there, atleast with sit down you know the quantity and quality of food everyone will get and for the most part can guarantee everyone will get a hot meal.

I don't understand why people would be disappointed if it was a buffet... it's like perpetual cocktail hour! lol! It's more food and more variety.

The only thing that I don't like about buffets is the logistics of it- it's hard to organize it so it's not a mad dash for the food. Also, I feel bad for the elderly guests who would have to wait in line for the food.

Re: Buffet weddings

FH and I recently went to 2 weddings upstate & they were both Buffet style.

At the 1st one in Buffalo we had to wait on a long line for food & when we got to the food the trays were empty. It was very disappointing.

The 2nd one was awesome. There was so much food we couldn't believe it. The best part was our plate wasn't just 1 food, it was about 4 different things & you could go up for more if you are still hungry.

I believe it's not a common thing for a long island wedding but it has it's pros & cons. Good Luck

Ehhhhhh.... It depends on the wedding. For most of the weddings and venues I've been to, yes I would be disappointed. BUT I went to a laid back wedding at the Queens County Farm Museum and they had a buffet - they picked the caterer - ohhh so delish!!! This was a sundress/khakis wedding, and I was petting goats and chasing chickens.

Re: Buffet weddings

I think it would be great for a day wedding especially a smaller one. But it depends on how you do it. My uncle had a casual day wedding at the family beach house in the hamptons and it was great with only about 60 people there with bartender and servers for drinks. on the other hand my friend had '20k' (it wasnt she just convinced herself it was 20k) wedding for 80 people in the catering room at a bar and it was tacky but then again she didnt even pay for a bartender at a bar and wine was in pitchers and no cocktail hour and she is just tacky herself.

If you want a buffet I say go with a buffet. I personally like to pick what I am going to eat.

THIS - it depends on the vibe of your wedding - as long as there is enough food to go around, people should be pleased!

Re: Buffet weddings

I find it tacky when you can't go back and get more, and they take the buffet away after each table gets called up once.
This happened to me in a wedding in VA recently, it was tacky, my FH wanted more mashed potatoes and he couldn't get any.
If you have enough food, and its not taken away, not at all.

OK well I am a fat kid, so buffet's are my favorite thing ever. I think as long as its put together well and looks classy, then its fine! Plus you get a big variety and heffers like me can go up more than once!

Its your day, and you are providing people with food, so they should be happy they are even invited. I can't stand it when people turn there noses up at events that they are INVITED to and they aren't paying for!

I'm no snob, I will eat what is given to me with a smile on my face and stains on my dress.

Re: Buffet weddings

Thank you for all of the responses ladies!! I come from a big Italian Family so the food has got to be good for it to be a buffet and someones hand may just get stabbed if they try to take it away lol, my mother would never let that happen. I have been to many buffet weddings as long as the food is good and plentiful I never minded. I have been to sit down weddings where the food was absolutely horrible. To me it all depends on the food and the organization is also key. Its a big decision and my budget is whats making it harder on me. I just want everyone to be satisfied but I know its probably not a possibility. I guess I have to weigh the costs (def. don't have a huge budget) and the pro's and cons of each.

I've been to a buffet wedding. I didn't think it was bad expect that there were 200++ guests and it took awhile to get called up and there was not someone at every station so I wasn't sure what each dish was.

If it is well organized it can be great.

You could also check out some of the all inclusive places

I have looked into like the Mediterranean Manor and I hear the foods pretty good but the location is bad. I figure it may just end up costing the same once I have to add extras and all that so I guess we will see. I'm going to try to get an appointment to go to Lombardis on the Bay, I hear very good things about them

Re: Buffet weddings

You def. don't see a lot of buffet weddings on Long Island, but I went to one at Bridgeview Yacht Club and it was just as nice and the food was just as good. The lines were a little annoying, but I still think it was an amaing wedding buffet or not.
