Ok so i have my RH booked (my dream place!). From what I understand there is a percentage way of doing a budget but it doesn't make sense to me. Can I really spend 5000 to 6000 on music or flowers or a limo? Whats like the average prices for everything ? A friend said shes spending 6000 on a photog, that seems so expensive what can you really be getting. Can you tell im new to this? Money to me seems so hard to get at the moment...not working full time bc im going to school in NYC so maybe im just over analyzing and stressed.....

Re: Buget question???
I don't know the breakdown or percentages...but i do know that if you do it right you can save money on the other vendors...use less expensive flowers, use candles instead of flowers, i'm sure if you research phographers you will find an affordable one....yes you can spend a fortune on these things...but if you try you can save a bunch also....

Re: Buget question???
I think it is something like you should expect to spen around $20,000 on everything besides your RH so if your RH is $30,000 your going to be spending like $50,000.

No offense, I know I certainly did it for a lot less then $20,000 above the RH...

The Knot has a budget organizer that based on your budget breaks everything down for you and sets how much you should be spending on each thing

ok so then what were your calculations.. because everyone works on a different budget but this is what my BM said to me when we were going over tthe budget and so far it seems right for me my dress is $3,000 the band i choose is $ 6,700 and the photography and video pacage i choose was another $5,000 and thats not even limos, the favors and flowers yet. i never said you couldnt do it cheaper because everything is workable. I was just giving you my own opinion from my own expierience.

Re: Buget question???
I haven't booked everything....but my RH is about $15-16,000 and my photog is just under $5000..... no limos for me... the big things left are the Dj and dress....we are not doing a lot of flowers just the BKs for me and 3 girls and that is it on flowers.

Re: Buget question???
Well there are gorgeous dresses under $1500 even under $1000....you can choose a DJ over a band which will save thousands...
I'm not putting you down for your spending choices, I am just saying it's tough to give anyone a number. And i think it's tough to even make a budget out of percentages....I know my RH took over most of my budget so i had to work around with the rest.

Re: Buget question???
According to my Target wedding planner, here is the budget breakdown (again I want to emphazise this is Target's version, not mine)
Stationary 5% includes: Engagement announcements Invitations postage Ceremony programs reception place cards thank you notes
Reception & Ceremony 50% includes: Site fee catering and beverages bar wedding cake table decorations cake knife toasting glasses
We are picking certain things that we can 'save' on... i.e. we are going with the cake that the package offers.. instead of upgrading to a bigger fancier cake.... we are havinga DJ....not a band.....I want pretty flowers but I don't want to spend a fortune on them.... the most important extra to us is the photographer/videographer.. so that's where we aren't willing to cut money.. so we figure if we cut elsewhere, we can make up for it

Re: Buget question???
That sounds like a good plan. I wouldnt mind cutting back on some things but i will not bend on my RH or photog. and honestly i like a DJ better always have (dont know why). I want more candles than flowers (at the moment), and my ceremony is at my RH so i wont need a huge party bus or anything...i think

maybe it's just me, but i'm figuring somewhere between 15-20 thousand above RH. With honeymoon and photog alone i'm looking at almost 10 right there. ceremony fees, stationary, favors, dress, hair, make-up, gifts for BP, flowers, DJ, tip for everyone and their brother--it all adds up after awhile.

Re: Buget question???
It really depends on you and what kind of vendors you want and if you are willing to cut corners. If you go with a lot of the popular vendors on here and dont use a lot of DIY you might end up with 15,000 over your RH or more but, if you do a lot of DIY and search for cheaper packages for things it could be about 5,000-10,000 more than RH.

Re: Buget question???
I'm not really planning a budget based on percentages. I know I have a certain amount of money I want to spend and when I see different vendors and different prices, I figure how much that would leave me with for other stuff when I book them. I think this sounds strange but for me it's working.

Re: Buget question???
See the problem is it all depends on a lot of factors (how much you will spend in total on a wedding). Like my wedding is probably significantly cheaper (at least the RH) than everyone elses because I am having it on a Thursday night and also only having around 90 guests. The bigger the wedding, the more exponentially your cost will increase for the RH. IT makes a HUGEEEEEEE difference.
Although id budget at least 6000 for everything but the RH.
