Went to the Verdi's bridal expo last night, took my mom so she could see the place and leave the deposit. She ended up refusing. She told me the place has no ambiance and that I should have it somewhere where 'it will feel like you're at a wedding'. I even got the guys there to give me the ballroom for a much lower minimum.. she didn't care. She said she liked the ballroom but Unfortunately her approval means a lot to me. But I may end up having to live with that.
When I asked her if she shuld help us out more if we chose another place (which would end up being a lot more) she wouldn't say how much she can help out. Verdi's w/ Tax & Gratuity w/ Vienese hour was like $70/pp for the Sunday night. I really can't afford more than that unfortunately. It's so frustrating... I refuse to spend a lot of money on ONE DAY. Yes it's my wedding day but I refuse to spend like $13,000 + on just the hall/catering. I think it's absurd. The fact I want a September wedding, I refuse to do it in the winter, make it more expensive at some places I noticed. So this morning I find myself back at the drawing board.
Anyone have any suggestions for halls that are under $80/pp? I prefer Nassau but am flexible... I don't mind Queens, or Western Suffolk.

Re: Bumed.
I'm sorry your mom didn't like Verdi's my friend is getting married there this August... and they're having like 200+!!
We're having a small wedding ourselves... I would try Milleridge Carriage House and Jericho Terrace has the Oak Room for > 100 guests.
Also maybe the Swan Club, too.

Based on the halls i visited, you can get a pretty good price at Fox Hollow, Jericho Terrace, Westbury Manor.. also i know a few people who have gotten good prices at Riviera (massapequa) and Timber Point Country Club.. you'll find something don't worry!

Unfortunately I think out guest list is going to be between 130-140ish. I wish I could have a smaller wedding but then I'd have to cut out a lot of family (I invited NO friends to my wedding cause I can't afford it).
I went to Swan Club once and thought the food was awful. Jericho Terrace I didn't like (no offense to any girls using it!)

I'm thinking of trying to bargain with them, but I'm not very good at it My mom was thinking of going with us & her boyfriend (I'd say he's my stepdad) and that they are paying for the wedding. And when they see the price they get up and say 'We can't afford that, let's go book ____ right now.'
I don't feel comfortable doing stuff like that, but mayube it's the only way to get the place I want without breaking my bank.

Re: Bumed.
Are you flexible with the day or time that you're going to have your wedding? I wanted a June wedding so I booked a Saturday afternoon wedding, for the same price i would have gotten for a Saturday night in March. A Friday, daytime, or sunday wedding will definitely be cheaper than sat night... Otherwise, you can definitely negotiate, some halls will give you a better quote, but you may have to up your guarantee.

I don't 'Love' Verdi's... it's just a really nice place in the price range I want to pay. I hate to spend so much money on one day (or 6 huurs ) of my life. Honestly I can't afford much.

I apologize I misread... I thought you were having a small guest list. If you're not still check out Milleridge Carriage House ... they were about 84pp (tax and tip included) and I think their max is 140.
Try also Crest Hollow Country Club. I can't recommend Fox Hollow enough, I love it there.

I might settle for an off-month there :)
I just can't afford the prices for a night in September like I was originally hoping for. I can compromise a bit for a dream wedding :)
I just have to deal with the cold weather on my most special day.. I hate cold and can't stress that enough!

That really stinks i'm sorry, but i have to agree with your mom, i went to check out Verdi's when i was looking and i wasn't that impressed with it and i also felt the pricing for January wasn't the best either.
You should check out Chateau Briand also

No offense but I didn't really care for Chateau Briand. It was nice but I just didn't think it had the feel I'm going for. I'm gonna try Fox Hollow again shooting for an off-month to see what they can do for me.

what about floral terrace? sand castle? Douglaston Manor? I've had friends get married at all and all got amazing deals.
Douglaston Manor and Floral Terrace were about $90 pp on Friday nights. Saturday day or Sunday day/night might be cheaper..

Re: Bumed.
i wouldn't recommend Crest Holow....they're one of the highest imo.
I would recommend Leonard's of Great Neck. I got quoted $69 with shrimp boat & viennese trays thrown in on a Friday night in June. I would definitely look into them.
Now 1 place I haven't looked into is George Washington Manor in Roslyn but I was told they were very affordable. Also in Lido beach (?) there's a place that my friends had booked. A friday night in October was $70pp.

You can try Ariana Waterfall, Manor East, Sands, Coral House and Brentwood CC...BCC has an all-inclusive package for around $10k that includes flowers, dj, limos, and invites. HTH :)

George Washington Manor was very nice.. as far as afforable who knows.... We went there about a week 1/2 ago and when there and asked about prices they said they can't make a contract right now cause their in the process going under new ownership and they haven't been given the new prices yet... But for when I was looking they said they believe it'll be around $95/pp (not with vienese btw).
One thing that bothered me is that when you go to the outdoor area by thelake you can clearly see a lumbar yard behind the bushes by the lil bridge.... I can't imagine that looking good for a photo on the bridge.

Sand Castle I went to and can't believe they charge the amount of $$ they do for that place! Personally my fiance & I were not impressed and thought it looked tackey.
Douglaston Manor & Floral Terrace we haven't gone to yet but here good things about it :) It's on our list of places to look.

I wasn't crazy about Sand Castle's decor..but everyone is different. I don't know how much is PP, but I know it's owned by the Floral Terrace owners, so I thought it was worth a shot.
