Bummed about Invites...UPDATE

Bummed about Invites...UPDATE

So i got my proof w/ estimate from Tessa yesterday and i have to say i expected it to be better. I've seen tons of pics of them on here and I just didn't get that 'wow' feeling when i opened the envelope. I was however knocked over by the price. When I told FH how much they were he almost passed out. I totally understand that its a lot of hard work and effort that goes into making them but I just can't see spending that kind of money on something that will be thrown out by 95% of the people who get them. Has anyone else gotten a quote from her and ended up not using her?

Update:
Thanks so much for all the posts girls. Tessa actually ended up emailing me b/c she noticed her quote was higher than my original budget. So I expressed my concerns and we're going to try a diff style invite. I'll keep everyone updated on my new proof!! Thanks again girls for the advice

You can work with her to lower the price and get what you want. She'll make as many changes as you need. For my materials alone, it was like $300 and THINK she charges you just for the cost of the materials without markup but I'm not sure about that. So all the printing and labor (which is A LOT let me tell you from assembling and cutting myself) was only $200.

So see what you can cut out or what you want changed. It seems like for custom invites, she's the best out there in terms of price.

If you're on a budget, you could also look up the Wedding Paper Divas website for cheap yet elegant invites/STDs. (Hint: just type in the name of the company as one word dot com.) I have to admit that my FH's reaction to the proofs was kind of funny, considering that the only wedding things he has cared about having a say in were the place, officiant, and honeymoon. He said, 'But they feel just like cardstock!!!' I tried explaining that I didn't want anything fancy for the invite. The program and menus, however, are where I might go fancy.

Here are my invites:

I booked her immediately.. we had originally priced out party city.. thats right.. PARTY CITY .. and their cheapest invites that were just one flat piece of cardstock with a little flower design were over $600 for the invite, the response card and the envelope and response envelope - with NO upgrades.. she actually got me pocketfolds and exactly what I wanted for less than those cheapy invites... I would just email her and explain your budget and see what can be done to keep you in your budget - shes super accomodating

If you read her contract I believe it says that you may cancel as long as the materials have not been ordered. If you are unhappy you need to express your concern. If you are not satisfy with quality that is something to be concern with. I am a Tessa bride I think she gave me a fair price for what I got but she did work with me on the price. I gave a low starting point intentionally and worked from there.

I too have found her cheaper than a lot of stationary companies, but if unique invites are not your concern, I wouldn't book her, just use a catalog. What didn't you like about your proof?

Re: Bummed about Invites...

I just took a look at your invites and they're really nice! But if you were looking for something different, you can give her other ideas, from other sites or her other invitations and she'll do it again!

I must have changed my physical proof like 3 times and the digital proofs - forget it! I think we had like 14 versions before I decided on a starting point.

Maybe if you used metallic paper (but that would up the cost) or added some ribbon?

Its hard to explain. the borders were off but i saw your post about her cutter so i imagine mine were used with the same one. I think i expected them to be so much better in person than the online picture. The quote was with the basics, my mom and i played around with diff color swatches and metallic backgrounds and it just made the price more. I'm going to look at a local store this weekend and see what they have before i make and decisions. I love the fancy big-to-do invite but i could easily think of other places where that kind of money needs to be spent.

Re: Bummed about Invites...

I'm confused as to how you were surprised by the price. Didn't you give her a range in terms of price when you first placed your order? I would talk to her because she really is so accommodating. I'm sorry you weren't happy with them. I'm a Tessa bride and anytime I have given input etc. to her, she's been so great to deal with. Hope it all works out.

Oops - just saw your comments about the additions you made to it. Sorry.

Re: Bummed about Invites...

unfortunately pocket folds and layering adds up quick. I'm a tessa bride myself and initially just wanted a simple invitation which she quoted me $250 on, but then I wanted to add color and another layer (plus i needed more invitations than previously quoted on) and the prices jumped up a lot. I think the contract is pretty self explanatory as to what costs what. I am sorry that you didn't like your invitations, they look beautiful on the computer image she posted.
