Bummed out...need to vent

Bummed out...need to vent

DH & I spent the last two weeks helping a friend open a business. We were very happy to help, and offered before he asked us.

Well, the timing couldn't have been worse. After I offered to help, I got all these crazy assignments for school. I am in my last semester and unfortunately had to take some really difficult classes. Well, needless to say, my work that I did during this time was less than par. I am pretty much a straight A student (I got a couple of A- last semester), but when I got back my assignments, I got 2 C's, a C+, and a
B-. I have never received such bad grades in my life, and was on the verge of tears when I got back the first C.

I really want to go to an Ivy League grad school, but with these grades I have no chance. It really stinks - I feel like I got punished for helping a friend in need. I only have my finals left this semester; no more tests or projects. I offered to do extra credit in one of the classes, and the professor said, 'You should have done better on the assignment, then you wouldn't need extra credit.'

Thanks for letting me vent.

What a bummer! It sounds bad right now, but it doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to affect your chances of getting into an Ivy League grad school.
Grad school admissions committees will look not just at your total GPA, but they will look at your work throughout the course of college. They will notice that your grades were nearly perfect up until the last semester. They may ask you to address this, or you can be pro-active and explain the situation in your admissions essay or interview. I've seen it happen plenty of times, and it often works in the student's favor.
Just don't give up hope yet!!

Sorry to hear you didn't do so well. I hope the teacher will give you extra credit. And maybe if you do well enough on your finals that could bring you back up. Good Luck

The prof shouldn't have said that though. He/she doesn't know what was going on in your life at the time. Granted it was helping a friend but it could have been a family crisis, he/She doesn't know that and shouldn't act so blase about it.

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry you had a rough semester. But all is not hopelesss... I truly don't believe one sub-par semester is going to wreck your chances of getting into a good grad school . however, I understand your disappointment and frustrations.

Hang in there and good luck!! I truly believe that you'll wind up in the best school for you in the long run

Oh thats horrible!!!!
I had a 3.75 as an undergrad and 4.0 in graduate school..so I can kind of relate to how it would feel to get a C. Is that a C for the final grade though? Maybe the particular assignment is small percentage of the final grade! Another option if this brings down your GPA is to go to a graduate school non matriculated, get in there and get straight A's, then apply to the program after your first semester in graduate school, ta that point they'll see how well you did and most likely accept you. I know two people who did this and got accepted. OR, you could start an average school, DO WELL< and then apply to a better school..most graduet schools will allow you to transfer 9 credits from another school..its sucks to have to prove yoruself when you have worked so hard..but you can do it and then you can have your pick of schools. Honestly, I was accepted into every program I applied to..I ended up choosing the school that I could afford. I called a million places that I would want to work and asked them if they would hire me with a Columbia degree or Rutgers, etc and sooooo many places said they don't care where you go to school, they care about where you did your internships..they all told me that was what mattered to them on a resume.
Our majors are different, I know that, so what Im saying may not work for what you want to do..I just thought Id throw it out there to let you know you have options!!! hang in there!!!
I think you said you still have the LSAT's to take..so study and kick *** on those and that will help out your application also!!!!
