Burner/boiler
A friend of mine just found out her boiler/burner for the house cracked and it will cost her over 4,000 dollars to replace it. I think I remember something about some companys who will give you a free boiler if you sign up to get gas or oil from them. Is anyone aware of this or know where she can get a cheap burner, less than 4,000 dollars??? She lives in Queens. Thanks

Re: Burner/boiler
I believe Keyspan will give you a boiler for free if you switch to GAS - but I think you have to be switching and they won't give it to you if you already have gas. She should call and ask. They might give it to her if she switches gas companies (i.e. from Con Ed).I just replaced my boiler and it's rather expensive. Luckily my DH is in a similar business and got most of the parts at a discount. He did the installation himself but this is not the typical 'do it yourself' kind of project. You really need someone licensed to do it.
I hope your friend gets her new boiler installed quickly.

Re: Burner/boiler
What ever happened with your friend? Did she resolve the problem?

Re: Burner/boiler
She has someone going out to look at the boiler today and she is going to call keyspan and slomins regarding the free boiler if she contracts with them. Keyspan usually only does it if you change to gas and she already has gas but she is going to call customer service anyway. She is staying with her parents right now, it is a mess. Thanks for asking

Re: Burner/boiler
I don't think she is. The worst part is they just bought the house in August so she has to find out if they inspected the boiler and if so I think she has a law suit.

Re: Burner/boiler
6 months after we purchased our house, we found out the hard way that we needed a new furnace. (Mind you, we just installed a new septic tank & put on a new roof.

Re: Burner/boiler
The Engineer should have detected this type of problem, but there is no need for legal action at this time. Call him and try to negotiate a settlement.I hope you hired a licensed Professional Engineer, and not just a 'home inspector.' There is a BIG difference. Good luck.
