Burtons

I'm still trying to decide on a florist..Maybe you can help.

We went to see Burtons, we were a little late and he rushed us a bit but he gave us the prices (which we were happy with) and we were on our way. Next we went to a florist in Oceanside (Haber Thomas). My mom knows the owner through work(long story). Anyway this guy was great, so nice(we were there almost 2 hrs)..but when I told him about Burtons he said it would be hard to match that price (for roses which is what I want). His personals were less and centerpieces were more which basically came out to the same price(a little more).

The problem...I know so many of you used Burtons and loved them. I want roses and I know they specialize in them. I don't know anyone that has used my moms friend but I know he would want to make us happy for my mom (which is good). I just feel that Burtons may be more what I am looking for.

Please Help!!!!

Re: Burtons

Stay away from 'friends' of the family who 'will do a great job for you'. There are tons of problems with that. Unless your Mom's friend has been a professional florist and done weddings for years and years and you know her work you are asking for trouble. JMO, of course. You have very little recourse when dealing with family friends if you are unhappy with their services. For instance, if she makes you up the 'perfect' centerpiece sample and you hate it how do you tell her that it is awful and you want something totally different. Or that day if you are not happy with something how do you tell her?
My advise is that you stick with a 3rd party.

Re: Burtons

Thanks Michele, I do agree but they aren't really 'friends'. He has owned the shop for many years and does do lots of weddings. My mom works at a Cardiologist and he is a patient for years. That's how she knows him, he's not so much a family friend as an aquaintance (sp) of my mom, I had never met him before. Although I think I would feel a little bad though to tell him that I hated something.

Re: Burtons

After you said that you think you would have a hard time telling the family friend that you didn't like something and you were happy with Burtons, I would go with Burtons. You are paying a lot of money for your flowers and they need to be exactly what you envision. You need to be comforatble speaking up and saying 'No that is not what I was envisioning.' Otherwise you will not be totally happy on your wedding day. Go with your gut and don't feel you have to book someone because a family member suggeste them to you.

Re: Burtons

I'm using Burton's and I'm pretty happy with their service so far. I have seen some pictures and smaples of their work and they do a wonderful job. Many other brides here have used them as well. I don't think you shoud go with your mom's friend when you really don't want to. I'm sure he will understand, and you shouldn't feel obligated. You want to be happy with your flowers don't you??

Re: Burtons

Yeah i do want to be happy...that's why I'm confused. He's got a big store in Oceanside and I KNOW he would do his best b/c he loves my mom. No one is pressuring us at all, my mom doesn't care and we only saw him once.I like what I've seen on this site from Burtons but I just wonder if Haber-Thomas would try harder to make us happy b/c of my mom rather than just being another bride.

Re: Burtons

BURTONS! BURTONS! I am such an advocate of this place. You cannot beat the price and they are sooooooo reliable. You will not be dissapointed in any way with them. I have a similar situation with a florist who is a family friend-but I fell in love with burtons work & they are so nice to deal with. I am a little leery about doing business with close friends--flowers are important so be wise and go with your heart--do not feel pressured into something you are not happy with!
