Burtons Flowers

Burtons Flowers

I have to call Burton's to make an appointment to finalize my flowers. However, I am totally clueless when it comes to flowers. Did anyone have the same problem and were they helpful in putting something together with you or do I need to better prepare for the meeting and know exactly what I want? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Melissa- first make a list of what you need. Example:
bridal bouquet, MOH, __ BMs, __ Moms, __guys etc..
Do you need flowers for a ceremony site or are those included? Are centerpieces included at your reception site? How many tables do you except to have? Remember grandparents also get coursages and/or bots. Are you doing a petal toss at the end? Do you need pew bows or pew decorations for a Church?

Next start to consider if you want a casade bouquet (the long ones), or hand tied (sometimes called a clutch bouquet). Do you want the stems to show with a ribbon tied, or the entire stems wrapped in a satin. After you decided what type of bouquets you want decide on whether you want high centerpieces, low centerpieces, candles or no candles.

With Burtons you do not need to know exactly what type of flowers you want to use or the color. Most other florists you will need to know that information.

If you have photos of your gown and the girls dresses bring those with you. Also bring any magazine flower clipping with you that you like.

I agree with Michele...

Although Burtons can help you decide, it will be much easier for all involved if you have at least a general idea of what you like AND don't like.

My advice would be to think about the color of your bridesmaids dresses --> you don't want to pick something that would clash. Also, you might want to give some thought to your reception space --> if the room has curtains, wallpaper or rugs that have strong colors (basically - anything but white and wood tones), that should also figure into your decisions about the color flowers you should get.

After that, check out web sites like romanticflowers.com and bridal magazines for ideas on the styles that are out there. If you can at least go in knowing you like high (or low) centerpieces and a small (or large) bouquet that helps. Even if you don't have specific colors in mind, if you can at least let him know if you prefer pastel/light shades or jewel-tones/strong colors or neutral / white & off-white shades, he'll be able to tell you what options you have. You also might want to decide if you like a monchromatic/one flower or multi-colors/ mixed bouquet. Whether you like a minimalist 'clean' look, or something more abstract / 'wildflower' looking. Finally, you might want to see if there's a particular flower out their that you prefer -- roses are a popular choice, but so are gerber daisies, lilies, Stephanotis and others. Cut/print out photos of any bouquets you love or hate to give the florist at least a general idea of your style.

Don't worry - it's the rare bride that knows EXACTLY what they want -- but you should try to get a ballpark idea of what you're looking for.

Hope that helps -- Good luck.

Re: Burtons Flowers

I went to Burton's last weekend. I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted either. I brought my swatch from the bridesmaids dresses which was extremely helpful. He was able to match the flower colors I needed with the swatch. He offered me several ideas for my arrangements & made everything so easy. I am very glad I went there. Their arrangements were beautiful and they were so nice.
