Burtons' for Dresses...experience?

I'm going to start looking for my bm dresses shortly (& maybe my gown) and I'm considering a bunch of places.

What has your experience been w/ Burtons? Are the expensive? How much do they charge for alterations? Do the girls get a discount? Do they have a large selection? Where are they located? Are their hours convenient?

thanks so much!!!

This is long!
I used Burtons for my brother's wedding. I'm sure some people have had a good experience with them, but I didn't.
The prices there were really good, but thats where it stopped. They said you needed an appointment to look at dresses, which we got, but then ignored us when another bride came in.
Although I was 'measured,' my dress came in HUGE! I even opted for a smaller size than they recommended (which they gave me grieve about at the time). They had only a few times available for tailoring, so few that most of the bridal party was locked out and needed to find their own seamstresses. Even after alterations the dress looked big. My hem ripped within an hour of me wearing the dress (it was too long). The other girls in the bridal party had problems too. One's dress was too small (she even lost weight after she was sized) and anothers was too long after alterations (she ended up ripping the hem too).
For the bride, they made her order a bigger size (dress too big) and they hemmed it too high(she asked for a low hem since she was wearing slippers.
Honestly, after all of that, I swore I would Never use them for my wedding.
Sorry for the rant!
Maybe someone has something good to say?

I am using Burton's for my dress and I've had my first fitting. Everything is going very smoothly. the price can't be beat.

I will be honest they are not a big enough place to accomodate bridal parties all going at once.

Sorry, but I have been there (have had an appointment) as a bride for my fitting when a potential bride has walked in. That bride did not tell the store she was bringing 4 other women with her (the place is very small) and she was politely told that they had to finish helping me first (I had an appointment and was there for my fitting).

I do not have a bridal party so I don't know the experience of larger parties.

i used Burton's and I was really happy with them (i just posted my review on them on the Bride's Review board, actually). The alterations were capped at $65 for the bustle ($75 for french bustle) and $55-65 for hem. I saved about $300 on the dress compared to Bridal Reflections.

ETA - yes the BMs get a discount if you get your dress there (15%).

Re: Burtons' for Dresses...experience?

My cousins used them for dresses and flowers and loved them!!!! That is why I went there.

I have had a great experience with them so far (as did my cousins) They have great prices, the seamstress does great work as well.
They don't have a wide selection, but if u find a dress you love some where else just tell them the info on it and they can order it.

They give u as well as your bridal party discounts.

and since it is so small you really have to have an appointment.

the bustle was capped at 75 i think and the same for alterations.

They are located on Old Walt Whitman Rd in Melville. Their hours are ok. I work 10-6 so I have a difficult time getting there. They open at 10 and close by 6 except for one night a week (I think, I haven't been there since I ordered my girls dresses so it has been a while) but they do have Saturday hours which is a busy day for them. They have been pretty accommodating with me as far as hours go.

HOpe this helps!
