They refuse to give me a price over the phone for a Sottero gown. I asked for Carole several times and was told she was out at the moment.
I explained my situation and that I know they have given price quotes over the phone. Karen, the woman I spoke with, said it's a new policy (about 2 weeks old) that they will not give price quotes for Maggie Sottero gowns over the phone. She said they were asked by the company to stop the practice?
Why? I have no idea? Karen said they used to give price quotes over the phone all the time but stopped 2 weeks ago?
I have also been told (netbride.com) that they are not allowed to quote anything less than the MSRP for gowns, however, if I find it cheaper, they will match any cheaper price I find?

Re: BURTON's new policy
It would be so much easier if you could price shop from home especially with this weather but I guess they figure eventually you'll give up if your in their store and just buy the dress instead of continuing the look for a bargain.

Also check out Pearlsplace.com. They quoted me far less for my dress than netbride did. You can just send an email and the owner gets back to you VERY quickly.

Re: BURTON's new policy
carole told me when i ordered that they were getting in trouble from the manufactorers bc they arent supposed to sell them at discounted pricesI guess maybe other stores may be losing business because a lot of people will not go there unless they know the price.
That sucks for you though.. I mean you think they could make ONE exceotion sheesh.

Re: BURTON's new policy
THat stinks. I called them 2x about a dress and they never even called me back period.
Then we went to interview them for flowers and when I got there I realized it was th same place as the dress place and then I said forget it.

I can imagine they were getting into trouble for it - but why I cant figure out? Most people will go to the places closet to them or recommended by friends/family.
Maggie still gets her cut either way, and Burton's is the one taking a lesser profit by discounting the dresses. Not sure why designers would care about that - unless it's the other stores that are the ones complaining?

Interesting tidbit - from www.houseofbrides.com
Dear Brides,
Effective October 1st, 2004, Maggie Sottero adopted a new Authorized Retailer Program and Policy. The program and policy restricts the margin of discount a retailer can pass onto their customers resulting in higher selling prices of their bridal gowns. All authorized retailers must adhere to their policy to continue to offer their collection.
House of Brides is an authorized dealer of Maggie Sottero and therefore, must commit to the program. We always offered the collection at 30%-40% off retail prices saving our customers hundreds of dollars on their bridal gown. We are dedicated to bringing the top bridal designers at the lowest price and will continue to do so. While we are unable to discount below the set margin imposed by Maggie Sottero, we will be offering huge savings in addition to your Maggie Sottero purchase from House of Brides.

I was thinking that I'd just have someone ask about the dress w/o noting it's for me. I'm sure they would tell anyone (in person) what the pricing is for the dress. Karen only said she could not tell me over the phone. She never said I couldn't send someone there in person.
It's worth a shot. I want Franchesca - in white/silver/ It comes with a matching purse and a lace jacket (for like $200 extra at RK bridal). I'm sure Burton's is less though.

I originally found my Maggie at Lilette's for $950. I was already to pay that but heard about Burton's through this site and when I called they quoted me a price of $570. There was no charge for alterations of the bodice and due to my small train I'll probably only need one bustle. My dress should be in at the end of the month.
Oh, I also found out (through this site) that they were giving a $100 credit towards the headpiece. I already bought my tiara and was looking just a cathedral length veil. I figured I'd get it for free with my credit. No go! It only applied if I bought an overpriced tiara (much smaller than mine and 3x the price). So I said thank you but I already have my tiara and have found a comparable veil on-line for $60. she said she couldn't match that which I understood. Maybe I should have bargained for at least a $50 credit.

Why don't you try bridesave.com or gownfind.com. See what kind of quote they'll give you.
