They refuse to give me a price over the phone for a Sottero gown. I asked for Carole several times and was told she was out at the moment.
I explained my situation and that I know they have given price quotes over the phone. Karen, the woman I spoke with, said it's a new policy (about 2 weeks old) that they will not give price quotes for Maggie Sottero gowns over the phone. She said they were asked by the company to stop the practice?
Why? I have no idea? Karen said they used to give price quotes over the phone all the time but stopped 2 weeks ago?
I have also been told (netbride.com) that they are not allowed to quote anything less than the MSRP for gowns, however, if I find it cheaper, they will match any cheaper price I find?

Re: BURTON's new policy - updated with great price!!!
Thanks ladies!!!!! Burton's would not give me a price so I called around. The best price I got so far is $538 (for the lace up version of Maggie Sottero's Franchesca) which includes the matching purse!!!!!!
I won't post so as not to get anyone in trouble for giving me a quote over the phone but FM if you want to know the name of the bridal shop.

Re: BURTON's new policy - updated with great price
I have a similiar situation. I was ordering the Bm dresses from house of brides (they were B2 by Jasmine) for a price of 114$. When I placed the order last week, I was informed that Jasmine had pulled thier contract because they were offering thier dresses at a discount. Then I called RK Bridal. They have a similiar situation. They are allowed to offer the dress but they are not able to offer the online no frills discount (where they meet the price and beat it by a certain percentage) They were able to sell it at a price of 134$. Still cheaper than what Bridal Relections had it for..189$
I guess some designers don't want thier dresses sold cheaper bc higher priced bridal shops are losing bussiness. Maybe the higher priced shops are threatening to stop selling the dresses if they don't have these policies with the online vendors. There are a lot more high priced shops as opposed to discount shops. They may have some pull.... Just my theory though!!!

Re: BURTON's new policy - updated with great price
I have to tell you ladies that I got my Maggie from Burton's and my 8 BM's dresses. They were nothing less than exceptional and they gave me the best price on the dresses and especially the alterations (that's where all these stores get you not the price of the dress). If they were asked by the manufacturer not to give quotes over the phone than they have to put an end to it because they want to continue to be an authorized dealer and want to continue to be able to give such reasonable prices. I originally found my Maggie at Lilette's for $950. I was already to pay that but heard about Burton's through this site and when I called they quoted me a price of $570. There was no charge for alterations of the bodice and due to my small train I'll probably only need one bustle. My dress should be in at the end of the month.
Oh, I also found out (through this site) that they were giving a $100 credit towards the headpiece. I already bought my tiara and was looking just a cathedral length veil. I figured I'd get it for free with my credit. No go! It only applied if I bought an overpriced tiara (much smaller than mine and 3x the price). So I said thank you but I already have my tiara and have found a comparable veil on-line for $60. she said she couldn't match that which I understood. Maybe I should have bargained for at least a $50 credit.
From $950 to $570 is awesome!!!! and free alterations is a great deal. Someone told me her alterations were $275 for a bustle and hem?!?!?

I'm sure you are right, that Burton's is not giving phone quotes anymore to keep their contract with Maggie Sottero. I could have been working for Maggie and calling to make sure they were living up to the agreement.
I bet they were caught too. The house of brides notes that Maggie Sottero's policy changed as of October 2004 but Burton's just stopped giving Sottero phone quotes about 2 weeks ago. So now they are being extra careful about phone quotes.

My alterations are not free. The bodice is no charge. I tend to be pretty proportional, 5' 8' and a size 10 so rarely do I need even a stitch on the length. They have a certain set price on the hem and each ribbon of the bustle. As I will only need one bustle it's going to be pretty inexpensive.

I found out that the hem and bustle are not part of the cap....but they are still under $150 total for a hem and bustle. That's still much better than most places.
