Has anyone been here? How much does it cost? Is it worth it? How long is the trip>?
We're looking for a not so expensive long weekend trip for our anniversary/FH' birthday.
TIA

It's so much fun! It's been a while since I've been to Williamsburg itself, but Busch Gardens is a blast! From Long Island I would guess it would take about 8 hours - but you'd be taking 95 which could be bad (95 in Maryland/DC/Nova can be awful - especially during rush hour).
Um, as for expense of the park - I'm guessing admission is about $40 - there's tons of stuff to do around there though - so I'm sure you'd have a great time!

wow. I didn't think it would take 8 hours! We'd have to add a day to our trip. I looked it up and with hotel and tickets, it would be under 500 for the both of us for 3 days. That's really not that bad. I didn't thinkit would be 8 hours though!

wow..thanks...yeah we figured something more like 6 hours...but I'm sure there will be traffic. FH has some vacation time left, so maybe it'll be better on a weekday

Re: Busch Gardens/Colonial Williamsburgh
yeah, you're nearing beach season, so a lot of people head down to VA Beach for the weekend now... maybe you could do a thu-monday trip to avoid beach traffic?
My advice would be to try to avoid the DC area between 3 and 630. It's up there with NY traffic now, unfortunatly.

Re: Busch Gardens/Colonial Williamsburgh
Thanks so much. I'll take that into consideration. My concern is that if it relaly is an 8 hour trip, it'll be imposisbly to avoid both morning and evening rush hours..unless we drive overnight...but I'd rather not do that. Maybe if we leave at 8 am..by the time we get to 95 it won't be rush hour anymore and we'll get there by 3/4 pm. Does that sound right?

that should be right... i know from smithtown it used to take me about 5 1/2 hours to get to fairfax... but that's about 10 miles off 95... and then it would take us around 2 1/2 - 3 hours to get to willaimsburg...
outside of the DC area, you might hit a bit of rush hour traffic around fredericksburg and richmond, but if you are going to hit williamsburg around 3/4 you should be fine...

Yay. thanks aldies. I'm going to pitch it to FH.
Do you have any hotel recommednations?
I was looking at packages and most of them came in about the same for a moderate type of hotel. I liked the days inn historic area from the photos. With the 3 days tickets it came to about $450. And I mean that's SO much cheaper than the disney trip we had given up, and since we'll be going for our anniversary/his birthday, we can pay for it with $$ we'd otherwise we spending on gifts

Re: Busch Gardens/Colonial Williamsburgh
Me and my DH used to go there for our Anniversaries when we were dating. We always drove leaving real early in the morning and it took about 8-8.5 hours. We spent around $300-350 for 3 days. If you go to Liberty Travel they always have a special going there. It includes the hotel and unlimited passes to Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. It's a lot of fun! We love roller coasters so that's why we went. Williamsburg itself to me was boring, but I'm not into the history thing AT ALL! If you go, you have to eat the buffett breakfast at Mr. Bones. It's a sports bar on the main road that Busch Gardens is off from. DELICIOUS! It's been a while since we've been there. You'd think now that we live in NC we'd go more often since it's only a 3.5 hour drive from here. Good luck!

No, it's definately not 6 hours. I live in Northern VA and my sister lives a bit further south than me, right down 95. To get to her place from NY it takes about 5 - 6 hours. Williamsburg is about another 2 hours from there.
I don't know if you would interested in this but FH and I have done this a few times and IMO it is so worth it. It is one of those timeshare tours. You get the room (3 nights) and 2 tickets (oneday) to busch Gardens for the 90 minute tour and it only costs $129.
I thinking we are going to go to smokey mt this year by doing this.

I haven't been to Busch Gardens in at least 10 years, but I rememeber loving it! I went with school and it was totally a place where I could wander around and not worry about excessive crowds and low-life types.

FH and I decided that we're going to try to go. Can you recommend any hotels or romantic restaraunts? Also, when you drive down, when do you usually leave? I don't want to lose park time travelling?
ANY suggestions would be great. I've NEVER been there before.
Any really great rides.attractions?

So fun!
As for hotels... We always stayed in VA Beach and then drove up for the day - sorry! I hope someone else can give you some reccomendations though!
