I went for my 2nd fitting today which was quite disastrous. I need to know - how is your bustle being held up? With buttons? They have sewed very obvious satin buttons to my gown to hold the buslte in place, but the problem is, when the dress is not bustled, I've got these random buttons all over my back. ???

Re: Bustle Help
no...have them put little latches..(i don't know what there called)...you can't see them with the naked eye when you have your bustle down, but when you put it up its strong enough to hold them...i have 6 on top and 3 on the bottom to keep the bustle open and to show the work on the back!!!...

Re: Bustle Help
Yes that is how it is but they are small they are not that noticable it won't take away from the beauty of the dress.

Re: Bustle Help
They're telling me the dress is too heavy for hooks, yet these buttons make no sense!!

Re: Bustle Help
I did have buttons for my bustle but they were placed under the bodice in the back (I had a lip) here is a horrible picture of it though

Re: Bustle Help
mine is a pickup bustle that is held up by 23 double strings underneath the train.

Re: Bustle Help
Phyllis is placing my bows under the dress, so they can't be seen until I do my french bustle. As soon as my 2nd fitting occurs, I'll get some pictures to post!

Mine was a french, so I had ties underneath. You don't see anything when bustling under...can you have them do that to your gown?

Re: Bustle Help
I had color coded strings for a french bustle. I'm not sure the kind of bustle you're getting, but if they are saying you're dress is heavy, they probably wouldn't be able to do that. Honestly, the strings were the best, it was easy to do and held up all night. I know this doesn't really help much, maybe you can ask?

This is what I had too but only had three total----my bustle did not stay up while I was dancing, I put a few extra pins and then gave up

Re: Bustle Help
Mine was bustled underneath with ribbons - the thing didn't budge at all! This one shows it pretty well-

Re: Bustle Help
I have strings that match up, so you match A to A, B to B, etc. Plus there are small hidden snaps on the sides for where strings would show.
Let me see if I have a pic. Found one, don't mind the wrinkles:

Re: Bustle Help
For my dress on the underside were numbered pairs of ribbons that were tied together when the dress was bustled. You could not see the ties as they were between the outter layer and inner layers of my dress. I have never heard of sewing buttons to a dress. That seems strange to me.

I will have a pick up bustle also, only about 5 ribbons I think.

Re: Bustle Help
Thanks for all the responses. I went back today, and am going to live with buttons on my bootie. When the dress is bustled it really is beautiful, and when the bustle is down, the veil kinda hides the buttons. I'm over it.

Re: Bustle Help
I had the same problem and I freaked out with the buttons. I told her hooks and then at my last fitting I realized they put buttons and also told me due to the weight of my dress. I was in tears becasue I hated how it looked. Then my friends calmed me down and I went with the buttons because I was just overstressed and figured the seamstress knew what she was doing. They aren't in a single picture and like everyone told me my veil covered it up fine but I was the same exact way.
