busy day - I think I may have all of my big vendors now!
I've been a bit lax in the wedding stuff for a while now, so I haven't really posted much other than commenting on other stuff. But I was determined to finish my major bookings before school started in September (I'm a teacher), and it looks like those final decisions might have been made today!
It's funny how these bookings work... you meet and meet and meet with people, and sometimes you find the right person straight away, sometimes you have to search a while... sometimes you have to sit and consider things... I've found that some people just feel right and some don't. The ones that feel right I'll be sitting there in the meeting and just be thinking 'I could book them on the spot and be happy' before discussing it with whoever came with me (my mom or fh, usually), and we'll walk out and discuss it and realize that we were both thinking the exact same thing.
I'm also finding that many of the more popular vendors on here that girls just rave and rave about don't do it at for me... maybe I'm just looking for something a little different, I guess. But I would definitely encourage you all to not be afraid to venture a little outside of those vendors that are really heavily used on LIW... there are a lot of great people out there! And of course, that's not to say that the popular vendors can't be great as well... just that every vendor has their own style, and it's really all about who works for you (as long as their reputation is good), not necessarily who clicks for everybody else.
Anyway. I had video and flowers left. Last week I met with one of each, and again one of each today. The ones I met with last week I was not at all impressed with... the ones today I loved both and was ready to book on the spot, but didn't because I don't like to make snap decisions like that.
So, if I book these two, we will have completed:
officiant
location (both ceremony and reception are at the hall)
photographer
music (ceremony, cocktail, and reception)
videographer
florist
and that's really it. There's limos, but a friend of FH's owns a limo company, so it's pretty much assumed that we're using them, we just have to talk to them about it. There's invitations, favors, bridesmaids dresses, etc, but those are smaller things that don't need to be done so far in advance.
phew, that was long! sorry!
