But she's an infant....

But she's an infant....

Alrighty, here's a good one....

Joe's grandmother is watching Gianna today and she just loves it! She gets down on the floor and sits in front of her bouncy seat talking to her and singing, etc. (did I tell you the woman is 86?). Anyway, I just called home and the little cub is sleeping and she tells me 'you know, I don't like to make her sleep too much because then she won't sleep for you at night'

UM HELLO, SHE'S AN INFANT, SHE'S SUPPOSED TO SLEEP DURING THE DAY!!!! My mother told me last week that they don't let her sleep, but it's more Nanny then my MIL. That's why when I get home, she's all half-stunard and cranky because she's not napping all day long!!!!!

Not to sound like an ingrate, which I'm not -- I really appreciate what she does for me -- but it's not like she's a toddler and if she naps, she won't sleep!!! And it's not like she needs to be entertained 24/7 right now! That's why she gets mad at Joe when he puts her in the bouncy!!

Ok, that's off my chest now. Feel better now, thanks!

Next time she goes there, make sure you tell your MIL to be sure she gets her naps.

Well at least you know now where her crankiness is coming from. Poor baby's tired. Hopefully from now on MIL won't keep her awake

Oh I just don't get it!! She's supposed to sleep during the day!!!

Re: But she's an infant....

So are they going to let her nap?

That sounds like my IL's. Whenever we go over there, he ends up being cranky because he's not napping. They are like he'll be fine with no nap. HELLO the kid takes a 3 hour nap everyday, he needs it!!!!!!!

Re: But she's an infant....

I just got off the phone w/Joe talking about this and he's laughing!!! He said he told his grandmother to let her nap! I don't know why she thinks that if she lets Gianna take a nap she won't sleep at night!!! She's an infant, that's their MO!!!

But I should shut my mouth because this is what happens when you have in-laws watching your baby -- they want to do it their way. Not for nothing, but it's not your kid, it's mine!!!

I had a fit one time when my MIL was in and Gianna was about 3 weeks old or something. I'm sitting in the living room folding her laundry and I see her go in to the refrigerator, take out a bottle and the next thing SHE'S FEEDING HER!!!!!!!!!!!! I was sooooooo pi$$ed!!!! I nudged Joe and told him to look at his mother and he started laughing. Well not for nothing buddy, there's nothing funny about that and he heard my mouth later on that night!!! She had no right to go and feed the baby WHEN IT WASN'T EVEN TIME TO FEED HER!!!!!!!!!!!! Oooohhh it's burning my a$$ even as I type this!!

And she also ticked me off the day we brought Gianna home -- we were taking pictures outside the house and I turned around to ask Joe something and the next thing I know the baby is INSIDE!!!!!!!!!!! She just picked her up and took her in -- NOT FOR NOTHING BUT THIS STILL BOTHERS ME because that was OUR PLACE to do that!!! That was the first time we were walking into the house as a FAMILY!!!!!

I could write post after post about the nuttiness with my MIL since the baby was born. And mind you, I NEVER had a problem w/her before -- she's just become the obsessed grandmother from heLL!!!!

And she tells me today ' I didn't go crazy for Gianna for Christmas, but I know you'll tell me I did' -- TRUST ME, I KNOW she went crazy. Like the baby knows what the heck she got??!!! And WHERE am I PUTTING it???? I have no room now for her stuff, let alone stuff I'm sure she won't need until she's 16!!!!

Move over on that 'That's *ALL* you got him for Christmas' couch...
Nicky's getting a toy box and 3 books from Santa. I'm saving the 'big guns' for when he can appreciate them!

Re: But she's an infant....

This is a funny thread.
Deb, What do they do to keep her up? At that age, I remember when JA was tired, he would SLEEP, PERIOD. Theres not much you can do to an infant that small to make them stay up if they are really tired. I remember I couldnt even wake him when I TRIED...now I cant get him to sleep if I try!
MIL's definately DO mean well...
Last night, my MIL told us we should put JA to bed and let him fall asleep on his own. (His habit is now, laying by/on daddy, and winding down in the great room, till he gets sleepy.
Well we followed her advice to be respectful.
NATURALLY he's screaming and crying in his crib. and she goes 'OH I CANT HEAR HIM CRY LIKE THAT, DO THIS WHEN IM NOT HERE!!'
UHHMM, Hello, we just did it to take YOUR 'experienced' advice, and you just contradicted YOURSELF! and she said to go in there every 5min (when he's crying) and reassure him that everythings ok, BLAH BLAH BLAH, its bedtime. Let me tell you when he's STANDING UP In the CRIB screaming at the top of his lungs, he aint hearin a word your sayin gramma !!!!!!! GRRRRRR.
This is real life hear.

We didnt get too much for JA either this Xmas. A few toys, books, clothes. No HUGE spending, I agree, Im saving that for when he can appreciate and understand it more (next year!!) and actually ask Santa for things!

Re: But she's an infant....

Nanny gets down on her knees and talks to her or walks her around to look out the window at the 'birds' or talks to her or whatever.

And you cracked me up w/your MIL story!!! They are a bunch, I tell ya!

Re: But she's an infant....

Deb, God BLESS that nanny at 86 yrs old !!!!

But on a more sappy note, let her bond with the little princess. Especially at that age, it melts their hearts and makes them feel SOOOO special to spend this quality time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Take some 'special' photos of her and Gianna for Gianna to look back on YEARSSS down the road...

This reminds me of a story....(and this is NOT to make you feel bad, I know youre kidding and saying these things in good fun, because you wouldnt leave your daughter with her if you felt otherwise...

A friend of ours, when their daughter was an infant, theyd need babysitting here and there, and several times the great-grandmother was READY, WILLING AND ABLE to watch her. She must have been like 80 at the time, and she's also similar to your grandmother, God Bless them. This lady does the laundry and cooks and EVERYTHING for the whole family.. Well the news got to her that the 17yr old MOM didnt want grandma alone with the child, so she never let her babysit alone, and any time grandma HELD the baby, little miss 17yr old would WATCH like a hawk (meanwhile she herself would WACK the baby's back SOOO HARDDD when she burped her, among MANY OTHER childish and inexperienced behaviors she had ) so anyway, my friend (the baby's aunt) Told me that her grandmother would cry herself to sleep because she couldnt have a minute alone with this little precious bundle...

Isnt that sOOOO SADDD ???
I know, beleive me, we ALL get lectured and feel we know EVEN BETTER than our parents and grandparents, but now I TRY (I TRY) to keep my trap shut, and let them do things that I wouldnt do (Ok it depends )....

But Deb, youre a riot with these stories, keep em coming, and it sounds like Joe's grandma is a riot too !!!!

Re: But she's an infant....

As for the gifts -- Hello, I didn't even buy Gianna anything!!! Yet!!! I know she has no clue, but I have a clue and I feel like the horrible mother!!! It's bad enough that this week I've hardly spent time with her because I've been running to the hospital and getting home late.

I need a vacation, I swear!

You know, I told myself when Gianna was born that I wasn't going to be one of those mothers who tells people how to hold her, etc. and I honestly haven't been. I really haven't said anything to anybody, I just biotch to you and Joe !!! But I laugh at how when it's a grandchild or great-grandchild, rules they used to raise their own kids, goes out the window and they do whatever they want!!!!

And now my MIL is either at my house or on her way and I know I'm in for 2 days of more neurotic-ness (wonder where Joe gets it )!!!!! Skip the eggnog, bring on the booze.....

Re: But she's an infant....

Oh Stacey, trust me, I am and I will!! I don't have to worry about who's watching Gianna -- they'll be fighting over it, so I'll just grab my bottle and watch from the side!!

Re: But she's an infant....

I just got a visual of that and am PIMP

I don't have that luxury Damien is still BF'd and only likes me or Steve. He only lets other people hold him for a few seconds and then cries for Mom.
