Buttercream or Fondant?

Buttercream or Fondant?

I am in the crossroads of deciding my cake frosting.
I like the buttercream.....yum but the fondant I dont like as much. I wasnt surprised as they say fondant is an acquired taste.
What are your opinions?

I like the taste of buttercream better also. Plus, I don't know what your plans are, but if you are planning to use flower petals on your cake, they don't stick well to the fondant. However, fondant is more smooth looking and better if you're planning to have ribbon around the bottom of the layers/tiers. Just learned this myself today.

Buttercream tastes good, but I think fondant is so pretty. When I have cake with fondant, I usually don't even eat the icing.

I love the taste of buttercream. I think it really depends on the look. I am waiting to decide until I have picked my cake.

Buttercream tastes better.
I've read up on this quite a bit. Real bakers criticize those who do fondant because it is too artsy and not really focusing on the taste of the cake.
I think it takes longer and you run the risk of the cake being dry.
Go with buttercream

how about a 3rd choice? rolled chocolate? (I wanted chocolate frosting but my parents sid it wasn't 'weddingy' so this was my compromise)

We are going with whipped cream. My catreing hall told me buttercream is not pure white.

I had a buttercream cake.. Fondant is sort of weird tasting, although it looks lovely. I have to say that the buttercream held up rather nicely and looked beautiful too :)

I also vote buttercream. Allthough the fondant looks really nice- it is harder to cut through and the guests peices don't come out as nice.

I love buttercream. I think that whipped cream doesn't hold up as well. Thats just what I heard.

What does fondant taste like?

I thought so aalso, but the catering hall told me they keep the cake in a special cake refrigerator, b4 they out it out at the reception. Maybe it is semi frozen? They told me they never had any problems so far.
