It is a really great idea, but I heard that a lot of them don't make it through shipping and you end up with a lot of dead or dying butterflies. Maybe you could find a local vendor that won't have to ship them to you. HTH!

I agree with the above poster....the butterflies do not make it through shipping and by the time your guests get them, they will be either dead or dying. Won't really make for pretty pictures, huh?

Go for petals, rice, or bubbles instead. I used the heart-shaped rice.

True. I am only going to do if its from along vendor on long island and pick them up the day of so no dead butterflies... I would be a mess. I need to find if there are any vendors on LI. Then I will make one of my MOH's pick it up :)

i feel like the idea sounds good in theory but then isnt so great. like the above posters said, they end up dead or dying and what if it rains or something and then you cant even utilize them, i would be upset if i spent the money on them and then it rained

NOT TRUE AT ALL!! I had a butterly release... I ordered dozens for my guests to release as well as 3 dozen for my DH and I to release! ALL OF THEM WERE ALIVE!! They made for AMAZING pictures and people LOVED it!!

I used swallowtailfarms.com

I did a lot of research and even though I paid a little more, I went with a reputable company! Also make sure you go with Monarchs and not painted ladies. Monarchs are more money BUT worth it!! I spent arounf $1000 for them!!

You can order them online BUT make sure you follow the instruction to a tea!! I got mine at 10am the day before my wedding and followed everything exactly- ALL my butterflies were alive and well!!!

I AM SURE IT DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU ORDER IT FROM???THEY HAVE VERY CLEAR DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO CARE FOR THEM. WHEN THEY ARRIVE...I DID ALOT OF RESEARCH BECAUSE I WAS DEBATING THIS BUT WENT AGAINST IT,, JUST BECAUSE THE BILLS WERE ADDING UP TO ALOT.

Re: Butterfly release???

Thanks so much for the info. I will have to check it out more. I am having a butterfly theme so I really want to do it. I jsut don't want dead butterflies that would make me soo sad. If I can find a reputable local company then I think I will do it.

Thanks for all of the input!

I think it's a wonderful idea as long as it's not too windy.
