Buy A Dress w/o Trying It

Buy A Dress w/o Trying It

Would you buy a dress without having tried it on, but you know it's the style you want and you have tried on something similar?

Has anyone done so and regretted it?

I'm in the predicament of not being able to find the dream dress that I saw online and am debating on just ordering it anyway.

I tried on a similar one (2nd pic) from the same manufacturer, Lady Roi.

I called every single bridal salon on Long Island that carried the designer of the dress I found online because I wouldn't but it without putting it on first. I found it in exactly ONE salon that was more than an hour away from home. It took me two days worth of phone calls, but it was well worth it.

hmm....tough one. while i know how it must feel to want a particular dress and can't find ANYONE who has a sample---i just don't know if i would be able to just order the dress w/o trying it on. every single dress is different--and even if you tried a similiar style--this particular style might look different on you!

just a pro for you in the decision process---if you just HAVE to order it and it doesn't work out--you can always use ebay to sell it or something similiar!

October Bliss, you're right. I need to make some calls tomorrow and find out if there are any, there has to be a Lady Roi dealer who has the style I want within a 1 or even 2 hour radius of here.

It's just frustrating shopping so much and trying on so many dresses and not finding the perfect one at any store. With the wedding so close - 6 months away (you're getting married a week before me!) logic doens't come into play sometimes.

While trying it on is always the best,if you find that you can't I know that I ordered my Lady Roi gown from bridesave.com and not only did I pay about 1/2 of the retail bridal salon price but the dress was perfect and the best part is that they take returns as long as its not being discontinued. I checked and they have the dress you posted HERE

Good Luck!

Everything I saw online and thought was perfect for me turned out to be not. The dress I fell in love with was NOT what I expected. Try them on! If you find the style you like and want to get it at a discount, try gownfind or netbride - they seem to be reputable from what I've seen here and you can save huge $ that an be applied to something else!

I called literally 110 stores in four states (NYPACTNJ), come to find out they don't really sell my designer on the east coast... Every dress I tried on I compared to that one, so I just decided to buy without seeing it and it came in a few months ago and LOVED it. Good luck

I DID this but how similar are you talking? I wanted a Maggie Sottero dress that was only in one store in all of NY, NJ, PA, CT, MD & DE...believe me I looked! And it was a sample size 6 which I was NOT fitting into. I already tried on the EXACT same dress but mine had different accents - I had lace instead of pearls & crystals. Fortunatly the designer, cut, style and fit were all the same so it really wasnt all tht different.

I agree.

IMO, at minimum, you should go try something on that is the same cut and style as this dress. you don't want to regret it.

Re: Buy A Dress w/o Trying It

I called every bridal salon on LI, Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn...you name it and NO ONE carried the particular dress I wanted to try on. After crying like a baby because it was the only dress I liked and couldn't find it anywhere I gave up. One day just for the heck of it I walked into this one bridal shop. They too did not have it, but luckily I got a salesperson that recommended doing a deposit transfer. A deposit transfer is where they would purchase the gown in my size, color, etc. When it arrivies I would try it on...if I liked it...I had my dress...if I didn't they would apply the deposit I left towards another dress.
It came in and I bought it. It was the one and only dress I tried on.

If you're interested in doing a deposit transfer I'll give you the name of the salon. I would recommend calling different salons and getting a price first to make sure they're in line with others. Thankfully they were with mine.

I wouldn't be able to buy without trying. I've seen dresses hanging up in salons, and when I put it on, it looked AWFUL. Dresses are sooooo personal, they can look completely different on you than in a picture, and I wouldn't want to get stuck.

Can you call the designer's main office to ask who carries it in the area? Maybe a store can have a sample sent to them for you to try?

Try it on first! THere was tons of dresses I liked on line. I went to try them on, but didn't like half of them in person.
THere must be a bridal salon in either LI or NYC that carries that dress.
Good Luck!!

The one at the top of the page is the one i tried on, a bit similar in style. The one I attached (green background) is the dress I want.

So I have tried on many styles that are similar jsut can't seem to find, i called like 10+ places already and none has it!

Thanks to everyone who responded. I feel better knowing I'm not the only one who's even considering ordering a dress w/o trying it.
