For those of you who bought your gown through NetBride, or Pearl's Place, or RK Bridal--what did you do about alterations? Did you find someone here on LI Weddings? What did you do about storing your gown until the wedding? From what I understand, most salons store your gown until a few days before the wedding. They do, right? I don't have anyplace in my apartment to safely store a gown without it being smushed and safely away from my cat, my sister has three rambunctious dogs, and I love my parents to death but if I put my gown in their house, it would stink of cigarettes after a day. I'm wondering it if's worth the extra $50-$100 to buy my gown from RK Bridal's salon and having the alterations done there. I don't think there will be that much in the way of alterations, or maybe I'm just fooling myself!! By the way, I've pretty much decided to go with this gown, for a lot of reasons: the fact that it was the only gown I felt like a bride in, the price, the lack of a giant train, others. It's not all that exciting in the picture, but it's beautiful in person, and very, very flattering to me. My mom loved it on me, told me I looked like a princess, and when I showed her the online photos later, she laughed and said they didn't look like much, that it was much better in person. And I'm not someone who is comfortable in all-over beading and sequins anyway, this is just enough for me.
Personally, I would spend the extra money to purchase it at RK.I wouldn't want a cat ruining my dress or dogs for that matter and I definitely would not want it to reek of smoke. I think it's worth the extra $$

Re: Buying a gown online--what about alterations?
Yes it will be worth spending the extra money at a bridal salon to order the dress. Otherwise your alterations will not be capped no matter what needs to be done. Alot of places do not take outside alterations. So your best bet is to spend the extra 100 bucks now because you can end up spending 400 easily on uncapped alterations

I would contact Phyllis at GownFind/Bridal Elegance. She can also get you a discounted price. She saved me about $300 with my dress. She has altered dresses from many ladies on here who bought dresses off the internet. She also will store them for you (just double check first). Her alterations are pretty reasonable and she does a wonderful job. Good luck!

i agree with this completely. check her out, her number is 631-462-0323. if you give her the style # and designer of the dress, she can usually quote you a price over the phone. if i had used her for ordering my gown (instead of a bridal salon) i could've saved $400!!!!
and if you decide to order the dress online, cause phyllis doesn't have it....she WILL take outside gowns for alterations and she doesn't charge and arm and a leg. i am having her alter my gown, and i didn't buy it from her. (2nd fitting next week!)

I've also heard that alterations at Burtons are reasonable as well. I can't speak from experience because my gown has not come in yet. I do know that they will alter gowns that were NOT bought through them.
Your wedding is in June so we're not talking about a long storage time. If you ordered your dress today it would be in sometime in March or April, so that's not a long time at all.

What's 'not an arm and a leg?' If you don't mind me asking. At RK Bridal they told me alterations would be capped at $350, which seemed like a lot to me. I am planning on calling around and getting prices--the Wedding Center in Commack carries Casablanca but didn't have my gown, but they'd order it, and I think they said their alterations were capped at $200. One of the ones I was looking at said that, anyway. I wish PR Scilla had called me back, I read some great reviews of them on here, but I'm not impressed with their customer service so far.
Also--wouldn't Gownfind then be an 'unauthorized dealer?' Isn't that a bad thing if there's something wrong with the dress? I think I'd rather buy from an authorized dealer, even if it costs me another fifty bucks.
