Re: Buying a house
i will be planning a wedding and looking to purchase a condo/coop at the same time. yes, it will be stressful. that is part of the reason we're allowing us two years to start this whole planning process. i'm kinda freakin out right now because it'll almost be a year until the big day. as for as the financial part of it, we've got a pretty good savings plan we set up a year ago to help us through it. and i'm working a lot of overtime at my job. it'll be cutting it close, but i think it should work out. if it doesn't, then we'll have to rent until we can afford it.

Re: Buying a house
We will be in that boat in 2 years We thought by waiting 2 years to get married and buy a house would be plenty of time...but now I am starting to get stressed because things keep popping up and I havent been doing too well with the saving!

Re: Buying a house
My FH just bought a house right before Christmas, proposed to me right before New Years and we are getting married in June of next year. . . .It's been stressful but I think we are doing one thing right: we bought a house that can be a legal two family house. For now, while we are still each living at home we have rented both appartments where the rent is paying for the mortgages. When we get married, we probably will be moving into the upstairs appartment but keeping the first floor tenant still there. That will be a big help. Also, FH has close to perfect credit giving him low interest rate and zero down. . . . You should talk to a bank, get maybe a round n about of how much a possible mtg will be, figure in the wedding costs and compare it to your salary and savings. . .. . Good Luck with whatever you choose!

Re: Buying a house
I know a lot of couples do it, but I just can't see how it's possible w/out going crazy. I give a lot of credit to those of you who've done it or are doing it now!!
While planning the wedding we lived together in our apartment. Then after the wedding, and a few months of NW bliss, we started house hunting. Both were stressful times and financially burdensome which is why I can't imagine doing it at the same time.

Re: Buying a house
We closed on our house last week and are getting married in July! I am freaking out with the money thing. Thank goodness our first mortgage payment isn't due until June! It is a lot and in retrospect I don't think I would do it all over again. I am so overwhelmed!

Re: Buying a house
FH and I bought a house 10 months ago. Looking for a house is actually fun . What is stressful is to pay the huge mortgage at the same time as the wedding. We are paying 4 the entire wedding ourselves.

Re: Buying a house
We got engaged in Jun '05 & closed on our house in November '05. When we got engaged I knew it'd be too much so we decided to plan a June '07 wedding. I am very happy we didn't do a house & a wedding in the same year....i had enough stress doing them 2 yrs apart !!

Re: Buying a house
we just bought our house the end of february. it is very hard finacially, thank god i have the help of my father, but i have to say, it hasnt been tooo stressful, especially that we did this 3 months before the wedding. if you think you can do it, i would say go for it.

Re: Buying a house
i think it would be tough mainly financially. the amount of money you have to put upfront for downpayments and closing fees is rough in itself. then you add on furniture and little renovations here and there, and that just adds to it. add wedding payments on top of it and i think i'd go crazy! thankfully we bought our home right before we got engaged so we're somewhat settled in finances. if you can do both, more power to ya!
