Buying Appliances....SIGH

First is a refrigerator, lawn mower, then washer and dryer.....words of advice???

What brands are good? Where to buy?
With a refrigerator, how much cubic feet is good? Side by side or top/bottom??

I have a top/bottom (freezer on top). It's by Whirlpool and 22 cubic something or other. It's plenty big for us! Even too big for our apartment really, beter for a house.

ETA: It fits in the space but we really should have gotten a smaller fridg for an apartment, we'll never fill it up, it's just too big! We shoul dhave gone with the 18 cubic whatever.

We actually got a few of our appliances at seriously reduced prices because they were floor models (our oven retail price is over $1500, but we got it for $400)... take a look at all the appliance stores and see if there are any good floor models!

Thats good advice since you are just starting out down there.

If you insist on buying new... just take your measurements of your space and buy a fridge that fits there.

After owning both.. I also prefer the side by side regrigerators myself. They don't take up as much room when opening the doors since they are smaller.

Try Sears, Whirlpool is a great brand, plus they have a good warranty. Ususally they do delivery for free and sometimes 0 interest for a year.

One tip for the lawnmower: get one that self mulches.

Welcome to the MONEY PIT! I know thats such a negative thing (I dont mean it as the movie depicted however!) but in just a month I have figured out that no matter how nice your new home is, you will be spending ungodly amounts of money on everything from appliances to paint, cleaning supplies, to decorating items! Its never ending!
we just bought our dryer from PC richards and I LOVE IT! Its a whirlpool and its HUGE inside 7.2 cubic inches! We dont need that big but I LOVE IT!
Our refrigarator came with the house, its a sub zero and I didnt think I would like it because is a freezer on the bottom model but its actually really convient! You use the fridge so much more it make sense to now have to bend down so much to see whats on the bottom shelf!
My advice on the lawnmower get one that bags it up! We have a mulching one and it works well but we have to rake a bit after mowing to make sure that it doenst leave clumps behind! Otherwise you will find brown spots on your lawn! But who knows our mower is a bit old so maybe thats why!

For a refrigerator I would go with Frigidaire or GE...and Whirlpool is also pretty good.

As for what size, it all depends on the space. You need to measure the depth, width, and height of the space before actually picking one out.

Danielle and I are getting a refrigerator and we are looking for a top freezer. My mother has a bottom freezer, and I hate it and my sister just got a side by side and there is hardly any room in it.

Our new house has a side by side. When we moved in I thought I would hate it, but it is great. The previous owner told us it was about a year old and they bought the largest they could find. It is huge! It is great because all of the shelves roll in and out. It is easy to see what is in their. The freezer is a bit tighter, but still lots of room.
