buying wedding rings online?

My FH and I wanted to use a celtic knot symbol in our wedding bands. We haven't found what we wanted in ring shopping in the area so far.

I found rings I love online from a company in Ireland. I was originally just going to use the photo to show vendors what I had in mind, but now I'm thinking that maybe we should purchase them directly from the company. It's clearly a legitimate business. There is no shipping fee with orders over $200. They allow full refunds with a 15 percent restocking fee.

But we're still wary of doing such a transaction over the internet. What if the rings don't look as good on our fingers as they do in the image? What if they don't fit? What do you all think?

Re: buying wedding rings online?

We'e likely to buy our wedding rings online too--this week, in fact--because the prices are so much better. It only make sense, as they don't have the expense of a brick and mortar store.

First, make sure that they have a good return policy, that they will take them back for any reason, no questions asked. I don't like the fact that they have a 'restocking' fee, though. You might want to argue that before buying.. It's reasonable that you should have to pay for insurance and shipping, though.

Make sure to have yourselves sized, and that they will take them back if they're the wrong size. Find out if the rings can be 'sized' here--might be cheaper to bring them to a local jewelry store to get them sized if it's possible. It's not always possible with decorated rings.

I buy things, even expensive things, over the internet all the time. My engagment ring was found through an antiques clearinghouse online, it was for sale at a big antiques shop in CT. We had it shipped here rather than drive there to look at it, with the stipulation that we could return it for any reason if we didn't like it. In the end I loved it so much I haven't taken it off since then, even though it really is a half a size too big!

The only part that bothers me is the restocking fee, but that's common for all sorts of stores, including stores here on Long Island. If you're not pretty sure you're going to love them, you might want to see if another Internet retailer has the same rings. A friend of mine wanted Celtic rings too, so I know there are more than a couple of Internet retailers that sell different styles.

Good luck!
