Ah yes, but what about Nassau County?? What rules apply then??

Well Jericho Terrace kept my thousand. They said it went to administrative fees.

Well Jericho Terrace is in Nassau, not Suffolk. And they, like any hall, had a right to sue for the entire cost of the party since you cancelled months before the wedding. So you actually got off easy.

Administrative fees? For what? To throw out some papers and erase an appt??!

And how many months are we talking?? I can understand maybe 6 months out, but anything more than that, and someone else can probably book.

I know it's frustrating to cancel when you have another place in mind. Trust me, I did it. But in Nassau you're bound by the contract and it's up to the hall whether or not to refudn your money. Some halls are not as kind as Jericho Terrace was to NYBride since they make you pay even if you change the date. Others will sue you for the amount your party will have cost unless you find someone to take your date. So instead of assuming and getting half truths, read your contract and speak to your BM about your options. Good luck.

ETA: In N.Y.Bride's case it was less than 6 months.

Don't get me wrong, I'm staying where I am. But I keep hearing more and more people who booked at JT and then are looking for someone to take over their date, which has me questioning what is going on.

I know. I was replying to the post above mine regarding Nassau. And I didnt cancel without them knowing. They told me I could with a written letter but would not get 1,000 back. If they would have threatened to sue obviously I wouldn't have cancelled.

Yes, in my case it was less than 6 months I believe. They told me however, even if someone else booked the date I would still lose $1,000 due to administrative fees.

Well I could tell you this. Weddings are stressful and finding the 'right' place is hard. I know I was guilty of going to places, falling in love and booking without really thinking about it...hence why I cancelled.

And I only know about one person (who posted like 5 times) looking for someone to take over their JT date - and that's because 'Queer Eye For The Straight Guy' married them. But it's your wedding - YOU have to be happy with the place. I loved JT from beginning to end and after seeing a ton of halls we were finally comfortable. I also dealt with what I think is their absolute best BM. But again, YOU have to be happy.

Amy, trust me, you got lucky. I had a bad experience with a really popular LI hall and they wanted to sue for the amount. Lucky for me, they're idiots and double booked my room on my date so they cancelled me without trying. Of course they never notified me so once I found out the contract was not valid. But people with other halls (ex. Swan Club) have tried to change the date and stay with the hall and they have made them lose their original deposit and re-book.

Sasha, who was your BM? I can't seem to find another bride who has the same BM as me!! I'm not sure why this is. LOL

I am happy with my choice, do not get me wrong, and I just ordered the invites!! So we are sticking with Jericho, especially when I just named off what I'm getting to my friend at Chateau Briand, and he was shocked at how much we're getting for the price we're paying!

Oh I know, I got lucky with JT

I only responded because she asked about Nassau and had booked JT. Maybe its not their policy, but thats what Vinny told me and kept it Either way, JT is gorgeous, but I made the right decision for me and everything worked out perfectly!

Picture in my review!

Mike Closs...the one and only...he's part owner and the 'head' BM (his title is Director of Sales) and he is truly awesome!

We got a lot for not so much!

I agree your wedding was gorgeous. It's all about making the right choice for YOU! Had I stood with any of the other halls I booked I know I would have been miserable. And reading another May bride's review of the same hall than cancelled on me I was very relieved.
