Has anyone else had this done, and about how much does it cost? We currently have laminate cabinets in the kitchen and while they do not look horrible, I would much prefer honey colored wood cabinets instead. I also want to put in a ceiling fan this summer and wanted one of the wood models as well to replace a really ugly florescent light that's been there since we moved in. Our dining room/kitchen are both one room too, and our set is wood with a wooden china cabinet. I thnk the wooden cabinets would really just make the room so much warmer, so I'd love to know an estimate at least. Thanks!!!

Re: cabinet refacing
We got a quote and it was pretty $$. I didn't think it was worth it. Mainly because my cabinets aren't that bad (they are wood) and my kitchen is small so I would rathe jsut wait and redo my kitchen.

Re: cabinet refacing
I guess I was also curious about refacing with a new material too. Can you do it from laminate to wood, or would everything just have to be completely replaced? I'm not too sure how refacing works really :) Thanks!

Actually the way they do it is a wood look but it is really laminant. They told me it was real wood underneath though. This one of the things I didnt like.

hmmm, a fake wood look with real wood underneath? That does sound wierd -I don't blame you for not liking it! I guess I will try and do some online research and see what I can come up with. Thanks again!

Re: cabinet refacing
We had someone from Kitchen Magic come and give us an estimate. I can't remember the estimate, but it was more than we were expecting.
One good thing about it is that it only takes a few days to complete compared to actually replacing the cabinets which can take weeks to complete.

I'll check this link out - thanks for sharing! I'm getting the impression that this project is going to be somewhat expensive!

What home project isn't expensive??? It's so depressing how much money it costs to update ANYTHING in a house.

Re: cabinet refacing
I had my tiny galley kitchen refaced with raised panel white formica doors, new drawers, new countertop and backsplash and a new sink for $2,700 in 2002. I used Island Wide in Deer Park. They were okay - they got one part of the order wrong, but I guess they did a good job.

Re: cabinet refacing
wow - for some reason I thought refacing wouldn't be as expensive - I was hoping it would be somewhere in the 1500 - 2000 range! Oh well, there's always next year! Maybe this year we'll just paint instead!

Re: cabinet refacing
sometimes buying all new cabinets is a better option than refacing.
