Before I call and complain to Cablevision I want to know if this is normal or not...
I have family cable in my house. We have 3 TV's. 2 TV's have boxes and 1 just has the cable hooked straight into the TV. The 2 boxed TV's get all the channels that family cable gets and the 1 cable/TV TV gets only 2-12 (basic cable).
My question... shouldnt all the TVs get the same cable since the TV where the cable goes into the TV is cable ready? Or does it have to do with the cable box? Do I need another box?

You need to get another box.

you need the box in order to get the same stations. otherwise, you get the basic channels and just good reception.

Re: Cablevision Question...
not necessarily, my parents have two boxes and three other tvs. the three tvs w/o boxes get all the cable channels except premium ones. are you sure the tv input is set to cable and not antenna?

yes, you will need another box. Cablevision is slowly trying to switch everyone over to their digital service (IO) which requires the box.
This helps them against signal theft, but takes more money out of our pockets.

Re: Cablevision Question...
That stinks!
I dont want to give in and get IO. It doesnt matter that much to me to have SOME HDTV channels (we dont have an HDTV!) and on demand movies 'at the touch of a button'. All I want are my basic channels and cartoons (Comedy central is A+ as well...) I just think that if Im paying to have the service in my house I shouldnt have to pay the extra $5 a month for another stinkin box if I have a cable ready tv already!

This is what my parents had. The tv with the box got the premium channels and the one without got regular cable (more than channel 2-12) I have family cable and no box. I get all of the family channels on my cable ready tv

Re: Cablevision Question...
I also have 3 TV's in my house. I do not have an IO box but the box in the living room gives me all the stations and the other 2 just give me the basic channels but NOT 2-12. We get everything but Starz and Encore.
