Re: cake charms

Here is what I found about cake charms:

The nostalgic tradition of wedding cake charms and ribbon pulling ceremony is making a comeback! This age-old romantic tradition is helping to bring symbolic charm back to bridal celebrations.

In the Victorian era, brides would have ribbons attached to small charms and placed under the layer of icing of her wedding cake. She would then have each of her bridesmaids, or other important women in her life, pull a charm from the cake before it was cut. Each charm can foretell the bridesmaid's future.

Today, many brides use charm pulls at bridal showers, bridesmaid luncheons, or in the wedding cake at the reception.

At any celebration, our delightful sterling silver charms add a special touch to make the wedding experience memorable.

We offer the traditional set of six charms:

Flower: Love will blossom
Frog: You will kiss a prince
Airplane: A life of travel and adventure
Heart: True love will find you
Clover: Lucky in life
Ring: Next to marry

We also offer an additional set of four charms:

Cupid: Love will strike
Rocking Chair: Long & happy life
Star: A special wish will come true
Carriage: A fairy tale life

Here's a link to a site that sells them:

(I did a search for wedding cake charms and got a whole list of places).

IMO, since only the BM's would be pulling the ribbon, I would save it for the Rehersal Dinner or BM luncheon. I don't think any one but the bride & groom should have anything to do with the cake at the wedding.

But I love the idea of doing the charm pull!

Re: cake charms

I think they are a cute idea, however, I've never been to a wedding where they did this. Not that that matters...

Re: cake charms

My Fh says it is kind of weird, that he really doesn't like the idea of something being inside something he has to eat.How do you guys feel about it, I just think it would be cute and a way to get people involved. Let me know what you think

Re: cake charms

I truly love the idea of it - I think it's unique and different. I would definitely include it in any bridal shower I plan but I would not have wanted this during the wedding/cake cutting ceremony.

Re: cake charms

I have heard it is something most popular at bridal luncheons because it is a smaller group and every girl would get a charm

Re: cake charms

My cousin did it at his wedding. The charms were UNDER the bottom layer of the cake with the ribbon sticking out. There is no fear of eatting them. I got mine at Michaels for about $11

Re: cake charms

I'm goiing to be using them for my BMs....and you tie a LOOOOONG ribbon to them, so they dont' get lost. and you can put them under...not in the cake so they dont' get gross.
I think it's supposed to be random who gets which charm...but i got a charm specifically for each girl....so it's not going to be random at all! i think it's a cute tradition though.
