Hey!

I just finished taking Course 1 @ Michaels (Is that where you're taking it?)

The first class she pretty much tells you alllll the supplies ... I would say in total (including supplies to make the cake, frosting, etc) I probably spent about $100 on supplies... which I wasn't really thrilled with b/c the sheet said $25-$50.

I wouldn't recommend skipping to the 2nd course, unless you know how to make flowers already. The flowers were kinda difficult IMO.... the class is really fun.. I took it with a friend, so we just kinda laughed when we kept screwing up.

I think it works whether you're looking to be a serious cake decorator or you're just taking it for fun. The lady def helps you out and tries to get you to do it right, but I told her that I was just there having fun, so she kinda backed off and let me screw up lol

Hope you enjoy it!

OMG! I am glad you both posted about this! I really want to take them at Michael's but I didn't know you had to pay even more $$$ for the supplies! Now I'll pass lol.

Not for the first class, but you have to bring a cake all the other weeks

One guy couldn't bring a cake b/c he rode his motorcycle there, so he brought like a round cake pan and did the decorating on the underside of it.. so if you don't want to bring a cake, there's ways around it

JMHO....

Once you take a class, you know if you have the knack or not. If you do, dont take any other class.... you can read books that give instructions or see pics and play on your own.

The classes to me were overrated.....

Re: cake decorating class!!!

Oh wilton stuff iMO is terrible!!!

There are much better fondants out there, ones that people eat. Also the buttercream is terrible. Again much better to buy and I have a good recipe if you want.

Don't eat everything before you actually start decorating the cakes.

hey kris...

got a spoon??

ali , i know! its such a poor quality. for chocolate lolipops i tried to go cheap and buy the chocolates at michaels(wilton) with my 50% off coupon.. what a mistake!!!!! i threw soo many bags out.

id love the recipe

You don't need anything for the first class, they give you a list of stuff to bring to the next class. Buy LOTS LOTS LOTS of confectioners sugar for frosting.

You can definitely skip class 2, but class 3 is the fondant class and thats totally different. Thats an awesome class.

HTH and good luck barb!

I don't think you look like a homewrecker - I would love it though if you'd get rid of that crazy picture you have up - LOL

I love the food arts too. Just watched a food/art challenge last week on Food Network - It was really good!!!!!!
