Yummy red velvet cake with the cream cheese icing!
Only thing that I don't like about it is that its a delicate cake to make.

If you don't want fondant because of the taste tell them you want smooth icing. It looks great!

Re: Cake flavors

our cake alternated tiers:
2 were yellow cake with cannoli cream
2 were chocolate with raspberry
we had fondant because it was necessary for the look of my cake (which i LOVED)
BUT... when you actually got the piece, of you don't like fondant, just peel it off and there's a layer of buttercream frosting underneath it.

No problem!!

Did you ever have red velvet cake? It has a chocolatey taste & it's very yummy! It also looks beautifulll!

But the only thing if the baker is not good @ making it, I wouldn't risk it since it's not an easy cake to make. Some bakers specialize only in red velvet.

What bakery are you going to?

Thank you for the advice We have not decided on the baker yet, but we have an appointment with Leonetti's and Dortoni bakery in Levittown. Our favorite restaurant orders from Dortoni and I have ordered a couple of cakes from there and they have not dissapointed so far. We will do a couple of tastings first.

We did vanilla cake with napolean filling. It was supposed to have berries in it but they screwed up. But no one noticed. They all said it was delicious. It was fondant but they peeled it off and there was buttercream beneath.

Re: Cake flavors

Our cake is going to look like the second cake you posted, only with lavender ribbon and rhinestone hearts on each layer to match our invites, and a swarovski contemporary double heart cake topper from Expressions Cake Jewelry. We're doing fondont on the outside because I wanted that perfection look... also, I don't think fondont tastes bad at all!

The cake itself is marble because FH and I couldn't decide between chocolate and vanilla cake. Each tier will have two layers of filling, and we went with chocolate pudding and strawberries.

I love the Tres de Leche flavor. Not big on fondant, but it gives the cake a better look.
