Cake Icing Question With Poll

Hi all, so far away for me but I was wondering...

Which icing did you go with - buttercream or fondant? And what are the pros and cons for each?

I have to say none of the above -we used whipped cream.

Fondant is more expensive, but personally I like the way it tastes better than buttercream. Most people don't like fondant though. I would taste them both at your bakery to see what you like.

I think buttercream tastes better.....but fondant looks better. I personally would go for taste over looks.

fondant can actually taste good if they do it right-- it needs to be very thin with a layer of buttercream underneath-- then it's delicious!!

same here. but honestly i think whipped cream tastes better than either one!

most people dont eat the fondant. usually with a fondant cake there is a layer of buttercream underneath so people take the fondant off and then you have the best of both worlds! fondant is seamless but expensive
