cake issues.. helpppp

so my RH is not a providing us with a wedding cake.. I figured fair enough because we're using an outside caterer.. and now our caterer tells us that they don't do wedding cakes..

i've been called up buttercooky and they priced me at $1150 for a f#%@^ cake plus 2 additional sheet cakes to feed all my guests!!! called Lulu's he wouldn't even talk on the phone.. I mean I just need a basic price.. is that so much ask.. I'm soooooooo irate!!

I'm having about 350 people.. and plan on serving a small piece to all.. but I can't believe the prices!!

One thing I've heard of people doing is getting a very small wedding cake to display at the wedding, and getting a few sheet cakes to actually serve to the guests. No one would know the difference, and you'd save $$ on the cost of the wedding cake. Just a suggestion...

i was thinking about the small.. but she said she quoted me for a 225 people!! so i'd have to shell out for additional 125 people... soo ridiculous!!

the thing is i didn't even ask for anything fancy..

yellow w/ chocolate and raspberry w/ buttercream icing..

How about you get a dummy cake (only one real layer and the rest are fake and just have a flat sheet in the back so they just cut it. Honestly, I don't know if your family is big on cake but by the time they serve it in my family everyone is just full. So why pay extra for the 125 people?

Try Reisters in West Hempstead and Mario's in Oceanside. What you can do is ask how much of a cost difference would it be to have 2 layers (inside the cake) instead of the typical 3 or 4 layers.

For my sister's bridal shower we wanted a tier cake not the sheetcake that the RH included in the cost of the party. Called the bakery and explained what I wanted and the price difference was considerable. I wanted a tier wedding cakes style but not a wedding cake. Apparently there are more inner layers in a wedding cake. Most people won't notice but you can save yourself some $$$
