Re: cake knife and server
We got the silver tone Lenox Promises ones with the hearts at the shower. I also have the unity candle holder and toasting glasses from that set.

Re: cake knife and server
My mom bought us the Waterford cake knife server. It is beautiful and I am still debating on whether or not to get it engraved.

Re: cake knife and server
I got the Lenox set - frosted hearts on the end - I just can't for the life of me remember the name. Coincidentally, my FMIL got us toasting flutes with the same frosted effect on the stems.

Re: cake knife and server
Yes, if you wanted to use a special server you would buy them for yourself. Sometimes you may get them as a gift. Or I've even seen a situation where a bride didn't get one and didn't know she might need one, so the hall provided a silver cake server to use and dressed it up with some fancy ribbon. From what I understand, the knife and server are no longer sold as a set because makers have recently started making the edge of the server serrated (sp) like a knife thus eliminating the need for a sharp knife to cut the cake. Servers are now used to cut and serve. So they sell them separately now so you can just get one or the other or both.

Re: cake knife and server
I borrowed mine from my sister...along with her unity candle. We decided to start a tradition that we can pass on to our children and grandchildren!

Re: cake knife and server
I like that Lisa Rose! I am the first, so I will have to get one, but it seems a silly thing.. one of those heirloom things you use once.. so passing it down seems like a great idea!!

Re: cake knife and server
Wow, totally forgot about the whole knife/server thing. Don't they just give you that stuff at the reception place?

Re: cake knife and server
We just used the ones that our hall provided. If someone had bought them for us that would have been nice but since we didn't get them we decided it was something we didn't need to spend the extra $$ on since the hall could provide them.

Re: cake knife and server
I actually just bought the Lenox Wedding Promises cake and knife server at Century 21. But I am registering for the unity candle, toasting glasses, picture frame to match. I hinted to my FMIL about it.

Re: cake knife and server
We wound up using the hall's. I registered for a set that was $200, Then I took it off because I felt like it was too much. I never got around to adding a different set. My Mom reminded me after the wedding that I have the set that goes with my Grandma's silver(all packed away, so I forgot)Oh well.

Re: cake knife and server
I hadn't even thought about these yet, but we received the Lenox china set as an engagement gift - they're even in one of the pictures I just posted!
They go nicely with my Lenox china, so I'll use them again in the future. We didn't bother engraving them.

Re: cake knife and server
We currently don't have one and I don't plan on buying one. Maybe I will get one for my shower and if not, I'm going to ask my mom is she and my dad used one and if so, I'll use theirs...if not, I'll use the halls.I'm running out of energy with all these little details!
